I am a grandmother who is searching to find playmates and parks with other preschoolers, near Austell. I am having a hard time finding playmates for her this summer. She so wants to connect with other children and I can't find the kids. Thanks

So What Happened?

Thank you both for your responses. I guess that the real issue is that I am familiar with the places in Atlanta and Decatur, but now that I am in Austell is where I am having the problem. I would love to get together with more grandmothers, but what I am really concerned with is, just finding playgrounds and places that are near here and actually have kids at them. I don't know whether it is that no one is going, or that the children are in daycare. I will definitely take her to the library every week and the museum and the Grant park kidee pool sounds great. I thought about the gym too, because that would also serve me well. I will still have to drive for about 20 min both ways, because of where we live but that is something I thought about. so i am going to see about setting this up .I used to live across from the pool in Grant park when her Mama was a child and then also in Decatur where there is so many wonderful things to do. I also want to be real careful about not having to go places and do things that cost $$$ every week. I have also thought about caring for another child her age as I live on a farm and there are so many great things to do, but haven't been able to find anyone who needs it. I guess i started to late. Does anyone have ideas on how to get the word out that I would love to care for a child for the summer during the day at very low cost, when I just don't know moms around here? I have references, I used to run my own preschool, but fliers posted hasn't worked and craigs list hasn't worked. So i am just thinking as she gets involved in swimming lessons and the library story hour opens in June we will get the chance to meet people and other children that she can get to know. She is going to start pre K in the fall, I just wanted her to have a chance to connect with kids this summer. any more ideas will be appreciated. I am going to look up all of the parks and just go to different ones each time, until we find one that people are going to.

Where do you live? I live in the Grant Park area, and I often run into grandmothers with their grandkids at the zoo and at the Grant Park playground -there's a great, new (opened last year) zero entry kiddie pool and splash area at the park as well. I also see grandparents with the grandkids A LOT at the Imagine It Children's Museum downtown and at Leapin' Lizards in Decatur (a bouncy play place). If you're anywhere near the Grant Park/Ormewood Park area, let me know and I can direct you to a lot of places where your grandchild will interact with tons of preschoolers and you won't be the only grandparent around.

Have you looked into Vacation Bible Schools in area churches? I'm looking for the same thing for my 4 year old son, and keep hoping that once school is out, more kids will be at the playgrounds. We just recently moved from Michigan, so we haven't met a whole lot of people yet, but I'm going to check out some bible schools/summer camp-type programs in the area this summer.

Hi D., my name is S. and I am also a grandmother. My granddaughter is almost 3 and a half and I have the same concerns with her also. I take her to storytime each week and right now she is enrolled in Kindermusik in Decatur. I also take her to the gym with me 3 days a week where she stays in the daycare there for an hr. each time, but I still would love to get together with other grandmothers who take care of their grandchildren. I call myself a sahgm (stay at home grandmother) as I care for her full-time through the week and some times on the weekend. I live in Atlanta in the east lake area (near Decatur).
