You've gotten some great suggestions to address your sweet baby's scratches! You must keep him safe, but I want to ask you to please think about your decision to declaw your kitten. Declawing is not cutting off a nail, it is amputation! There are alternatives, one of which someone else suggested! Have you tried Mederma for kids? This was really a miracle for us when my two year old scraped a long line of skin off his little nose. You just use as directed on the back of the tube, and as it heals, it practically erases the scar. There is no visible sign of scarring on his nose now. I'm not sure if it was the elasticity of his young skin that made the difference, but I'm thinking the mederma helped. You can get it at any pharmacy (over the counter). By the way, I myself had a little accident with the iron two weeks ago and have been applying it to my burn, and it seems to be working. Hope this helped.

Cetaphil lotion/cream. It is gentle and hypo-allergenic. I had some TERRIBLE scars from poison ivy and (over time), the scars have faded to gone. My daughter works at a dermatology office and she said they give it to their patients, as well.

I've heard that Mederma works great and I think they even have a version for kids. It's expensive, but it's over the counter. You should be able to find it wherever you find neosporin and other topic antibiotic creams.

Mederma is what he recommends to his patients. Vitamin E Oil is an alternative that is less expensive. Scars that are pink are still healing, so using sunscreen is also very important. The Mederma for kids should give you great results:)

Traditionally, Vitamin E is supposed to be good for preventing scars. Not sure if it will diminish scars already formed, but I've always heard that when you get a scratch, as soon as it begins to heal, start applying Vit. E. The way to do so is to have the Vitamin E capsules, the yellow, sort of waxy-surfaced capsules, and poke a needle into one end, and squeeze out one drop, and smear it on a scratch/scar. Do this daily. You might want to Google Vit. E and see if there's any newer research on that, but I found it to work pretty well on my kids scratches. Get a good grade of Vit. E, such as alpha-Tocopherol(D-formation, I seem to remember), the organic kind, not the synthetics.

tea tree oil and vitamin e oil (at least 10,000 iu) (applied in 50:50 will help minimize the sting factor...)

I know this is not really what you asked but I have some other advise for you. When we got our kitten at 6 wks old and we couldn't declaw her till she was 4 mos she tore up my daughter with her claws. I found some nail covers for cats at Petsmart and they really worked! They are like little slip on covers that go over the nails (you glue them on so they stay). They are a clear plastic/rubber and as they fall off you just glue another one on. I don't remember what they are called or if they even sell them anymore. But they really did work great!!

Mederma was recommended for my daughter by a doctor in the emergency room when we went in with a cut on her face. They make a Mederma for kids. It has to be put on 3-4 times a day for 6-8 weeks, but it did work.

You are worried about nothing! We went through the same thing when my daughter was that age. She is now 10 and there are no permanent scars. They will fade and become less noticeable, just as yours do.

I don't have any personal experience with this or other similar products, but I have heard numerous times over the years that Mederma works great on scars. I think it's a little pricey, but you don't need a prescription.

The same thing happened to my little boy & I used Sudden Change Scar removal with green tea. It is at Wal-Mart. I know the first two words are Sudden Change but I can't remember the whole name. It has worked wonders. It says it is for old & new scars. I hope that helps you.

Hi C.. I have a business making and selling handmade bath and body products and from the list of natural ingredients i use i can recommend the following...however, don't forget that just regular neosporin really works well for fresh cuts.

tea tree oil is great for many reasons. It's a natural disinfectant, antibacterial, antimicrobial etc. with small stratches you'll find it to be great. Lavender essential oil is also all those thigns and just one of the most awesome essential oils. these are two of the few essential oils that you can safely use straight with out diluting them with a carrier oil like sweet almond etc. most others you'd NOT want to use straight but those two are fine.

then for healed over stratches and scars, i personally love unrefined shea butter and make a great, fast absorbing blend with either rosehip oil or grapeseed oil (depending on what i have in stock and is fresh) and both of those are good for cell regeneration as well as very fast absorbing so you don't have so much of the heavy emollient/greasy feel as you could with heavier oils. i always make and carry this shea butter. it's great for any type of moisturizing need for the skin...

the last thing i want to say...and i bet someone else already did but i didn't have time to read the replies...is that you should reconsider, seriously, getting your cat declawed. it's not just cutting their toe nails...it's cutting off their toes to put it strongly. i'm not even a big "oh my gosh, the poor animals" type of personality so it's not that i'm all concerned in that way. but I do have a regular sort of concern for the fact that i don't think a lot of people realize it's pretty harsh to have a cat declawed. i didn't always know this, but now i do and i'd never have it done. it's up to you. i'm sure your son and the cat can outgrow the stratching. good luck!

Have you tried Neosporin for scars? From what I've heard it's supposed to work very well. Also use the regular Neosporin for any new cuts/scratches and keep clean.

I LOVE Mederma.

My 3 year old got attacked by a rose bush riding one of the kids ride ons - um I guess Last Christmas (2007). He had a scar that started on his forehead, went through his left eye area (thank God, no vision/ eyelid involvement), then the top of his cheek down to under his chin. I thought he'd be maimed for life. As soon as it scabbed over, I started with the Mederma. You can see it - a little - under his chin (I probably missed there), but it's absolutely invisible on his face.

It works pretty well on scars up to 6 months old in my experience. The 14 dollar tube should last you several months.

You'd be surprised how well his scars will heal being so young :) You probably won't even see it in 6 mths or so. Moderma and neosporin are great but you have to be consistent and keep at it. Keep it clean and moisturized! My 2 year old got a really bad scar on her arm last year from a burn and I was so upset it would be there for life... you can't even see it at all now.

Neosporin on fresh scratches. Maybe mederma or something like that on the scars.
