Mamas & papas

Any ideas for what I might do for a robot Halloween costume for myself? I'm expecting and can't think of anything I can get commercially that might fit. I am open to suggestions.
Thanks

So What Happened?

I know there are a load of diy options, but I'd like something prefab this year.

A pumpkin sounds a lot easier to me. Buy an orange sweatshirt and use black fabric paint to make a face. If you really want to go all out, wear a green hat.

You could probably fit your belly in one of those aluminum roasting pans for turkeys! Grey sweatpants with silver wire coiled around your legs would be more comfy than solid tubes. Silver colander hat?

You're pregnant!!?!?!?! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

Personally? I would be open to a "portal" costume - white shirt and leggings - with a picture of a baby peering out...

What about a "bun in the oven"???

A pumpkin? Bright orange shirt that is filled all the way around??

I just googled "costumes for pregnant women" and got this one - I love this idea!!

totally simple. Keeps you comfy!!

I thought immediately of what Bridgette said. Cardboard box(es), with a neck cut out, and painted silver/grey. You could even draw/paint buttons or digital readouts on it. Just wear a silver/grey long sleeved shirt and sweats underneath your box(es). On the back of the box, affix a spring of some sort as an antennae for remote control operation. Or put something in your hair with the same effect.

How about cardboard boxes painted grey or covered with foil and decorated to look like a robot with dryer vent tubing over your arms and legs?

YouTube has lots of how-to videos and Pinterest is probably filled with ideas.

This is an adult sized costume to buy

http://www.amazon.com/Fun-Costumes-Adult-Robot-Costume/dp...

I just like that it has everything you need from leggings to the boot covers. Pricey but if you could wear it again...

I know of lots of how to make robot costumes for kids ... ones without sewing too (you just need silver duct tape). I've seen kids just take silver pillowcases and cut out arms and head hole and cover plastic bags with silver duct tape and attach and then stick a silver mixing bowl on top of a bike helmet (think R2 D2) and attach some funky cut outs for robot buttons on the front and on mixing bowl. That does involve work but new sewing ...

Good luck :) I think a pregnant robot would be great!

Wear grey clothes and paint a cardboard box to wear around your belly. You can paint different color buttons and switches onto the box.

We did a terrific robot costume for our son years ago. It was easy, and he was able to participate in some of it.

We took a carton, cut off the top flaps, and then turned it upside down. We cut a hole for his head and 2 holes for his arms, then placed the whole thing on top of him, with the box bottom now resting on his shoulders. Choose any size carton that is a little bigger than shoulder width, allowing for a coat or sweatshirt underneath.

We painted ours white with standard latex paint. We bought a length of white flexible dryer hose at the hardware store, and cut it into 4 pieces for his arms and legs. The two arm pieces go through the arm holes and just attach with tape, or you can safety pin them to whatever you are wearing. You can't see the pins because they are inside the carton. We used 2 additional pieces for his legs that got safety pinned to his clothes, a belt or even a piece of rope you tie around his waist - you can't see the tops because they are under the bottom edge of the carton. But, at least at that time, they didn't have a width that worked for adult legs, so you could use white sweats.

To decorate, put on things that look like buttons and dials - you can draw them with a black sharpie marker, or you can get things at the hardware store such as the felt cushion things you put under vases, plastic caps for chair legs, or even a $1 calculator or an old remote control you don't use anymore. Glue them on, or put a simple nut and bolt through the plastic caps (bolt goes through cap and through a hole you punch in the carton, then put a bolt or wing nut on the inside. This is fun for a child to do with your help if you want him to participate.

We hung a cup hook on the outside and attached a candy bag to it so he didn't even have to carry his bag. We also put some cheap reflectors on it so he didn't have to carry a glow stick, but you could attach glow sticks at the last minute if you wanted to.

You don't have to make a headpiece, but if you are ambitious, you can take a second smaller box, cut a hole for your face, and invert it on your head (attaching to the body of the costume if you want to).

If this is hard to visualize, message me and I will send you a sketch. Not sure if I have an old photo of my kid but I can look for it - you have plenty of time.

Good luck - sounds like a great idea for a pregnant lady!

Anyway, this takes a little time, tape and glue, but it's dirt cheap and unique.

I had a lady come in the store one time, we sell little kids cheer outfits, and she was very pregnant. She wanted to have a cheer outfit to go as a pregnant cheerleader. Her husband was going to be a football player. Cute idea but we didn't have anything that would fit her.

They are in their 30's by the way.
