Hi S.,
We took our 8mm to Wolfs and they did an excellant job of transfering them to DVD.
I have reels and reels of family movies from when my brother and myself were little. I would like to have them transferred to DVD as a holiday present for my Mother and brother. Does anyone have any recommendations of a company to do this? I've had a quote from a company from myspace, but I don't know anything about the company. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I think this would be a great gift for the family and would like to start completing this project sooner rather than later, as I'm sure that the cost will be a little steep! Thanks to all who respond!!

My mother in law had it done at Wal-Mart, and besides the fact that our copy was scratched I prefer not to patronize them for a lot of reasons- so- when you find out who does a good job for a reasonable price will you post it or let me know?
We are also thinking of buying a machine that can burn DVDs from video to put our videos of our daughter on a better format. Costco had one at a good price but of course if you're my age the home videos would be 8 track or something, not VHS.
Take care,
B.
I'd goto http://www.gotmemories.com , $4.99 per 50ft reel to DVD, cheapest price we found and they have videos on their site showing you everything, like how they transfer the film, nice samples, they are on ebay also, 99% positive feedback, user id is gotmemories_az
I recently had some video transferred to DVDs at Cocks-Clark Graphics downtown. They did a very good job, and it actually looks like a real movie. I don't know if they do the transfer you are looking for, but you might check. Their website is www.cocksclark.com. One of the larger Wolf Camera locations also might have an idea of where to go.
Good luck! C.
A friend of mine has his own company, Cherry Creek Computer help. His name is Steve and his number is ###-###-#### - I know he does this for people nad he is reasonable.
Also if you're interested I take pictures and turn them into different kinds of home movies! Here are some examples and you can e-mail me at ____@____.com if you're interested.
Something FUN!

My husband's family had the same problem. They had dozens of reels of old home movies from the late '50's and '60's. The person that my brother in law found charged 10 cents per foot to copy it onto a dvd. Which amounted to over a thousand dollars. Unfortunatly we found out after the fact that all the guy did was view the old movie on a screen while recording it with his video camera. The results where terrible. The resolution was so bad that you couldn't tell who was who and over 50% was completly unviewable.
So I guess my advise is buyer beware. This was an expensive process and we got very poor results. Find out how it is done and have just one reel done so you can see the results. Good luck.

You could try Highplains Video Production. It's a little company owned by my nephew's in-laws. They are both retired school teachers and got into the video production business for fun. I know they make old photos into a video/DVD and they can incorporate old home movie so I am sure they can convert your old movies to DVD. They are very sweet, reasonable and somewhat local (Strasburg, CO). Here's the web address: www.highplainsvideoproduction.com and their phone number is ###-###-####. Good luck, it's a GREAT gift idea.
