I have tried Mirena (IUD)& Yaz (pill) for birth control. I had problems with both of them. The Mirena I bleed for 6 months and the Yaz I have spotted and bleed when I wasn't suppose to. I went to the doctor yesterday to discuss another form and she is putting me on Ortho Evra (the patch). I have a very dear friend who is afraid for me to go on it beacuse one of her friends had a heartattack in her early 20's from being on it. I don't know of anyone else who has used the patch. All input would be appreciated if you have used this form of birth control. I am suppose to start with it on Sunday. Thank you for responses. I truly appreciate it.
The patch worked for me for awhile but it started irritating my skin. Change where you put it every time you change it. I eventually switched to something else- can't remember what, that was too many years ago!
Personally, I am choosing not to use birth control with hormones (the patch, the pill, etc.). I was on the pill for 11 years (for medical reasons) until I went off several months before getting preggers with our first child. I have a 3-year-old and a 16-month-old, and now we are choosing to just use condoms as birth control until we can save up to get a vasectomy for my hubby (we're done having children). I just feel that there are too many side affects and possible risks to using a hormonal birth control method (stroke, heart attack, weight gain, etc.). That's just my choice ... I'm not a smoker (so that lowers my risk), but I'm over 30 (and have a family history of heart disease and stroke). It just scares me too much ... so we're just sticking with the condoms! ;)

Do some research on this. Try Webmd.com see if they have anything about it. I have heard both good and bad things about this patch but I can't really advise you on this one. If Webmd doesn't have anything about it, then google it and see if you come up with anything. Also, try food and drug administration, I think that might be FDA.com or .gov not sure. Hopefully someone of the mothers has tried it and can tell you of her experiences. Keep in mind that everyone is different and will react differently to medications.

I have tried the ortho tri-cyclen (pill) and i have also used the patch.the one thing i can say is that the patch gave me an allergic reaction. It made me itch like crazy. What i can suggest for you to try is the depo shot. You get it once every 3 months. You may spot for a few days or you may have a regular period. Once it's gone that's it. If your the type to eat alot...then you may gain weight. If your not then you won't. But everybody is different.
My sister used the patch for a while. All I know is she didn't like it because when she exercised and sweated it would come off.
I loved the patch and used it for 3 years. It worked really well for me. Until I moved and had to change OBs. My OB looked at my chart and was immediately concerned...."You're still on the patch?" "mmm-mmm" "Why are you on the patch? The hormones from that are WAY too high. It's causing women everywhere to get blood clots, have heart attcks, and strokes. There's even a massive class action lawsuit and I 'thought' the FDA had pulled it..... You've GOT to come off this now. Take it off. Come on, take it off. Give it to me.....okay. Now we're going to try something SAFE. How about the pill? Or would you like to try the Nuva Ring?"
Yeah she freaked me out about the risks. And I did notice in the time that I used it that it elevated m y heart rate. I didn't have any other problems, thank goodness.
I would definitely stay away from it and figure out something else. After two kids, the pill has proven to not be effective for me, and I have medical issues with everything else I've tried. I know it's a pain, but using condoms has proven the most effective and best solution for us (until we're done and DH gets snipped).

I tried the patch for a few months. It wasn't fun. It would fall off of you put it on your lower back, or upper back. The only place I was able to put it was on my shoulder and it broke me out after a few repeated uses. I wouldn't recommend it. There are great pills out there and you could even try the nouva ring......I tried that too and liked it pretty good, it was just a weird thought that there was something there all the time.

I have heard bad things about the patch, some were saying that it can fall off easy and you won't get the right dosage. loved yaz, you absoloutly have to take it at the same time everyday, or you can spot. I always took it in the mornings and I had a 4 day period. I am actually on Necon witch is the pill, Only because its cheaper, but I am fixing to go back to yaz. Its the only one that don't make you gain weight. i have heard the patch can make you gain also. How long did you try the pill, you have to take it for about 3 months to know how you are gonna react to it. Did you miss pills alot?
Hey T.! I took the patch for a couple of months and i started have a reaction to the glue on the patch (or maybe it was the medicine) but my skin became so sensitve and swollen that it took months for it to go back to normal. I wouldnt recommend it if you have sensitive skin :)
