When I was little-age 5-I had recurring nightmares about Godzilla. I got so tired of Godzilla winning and killing my family tht I rewrote the ending to the dream. I won then. Teach your little one how to rewrite while she is awake the part of her dream that causes the most distress. And, like any other medicine, repeat this procedure as often as necessary. Eventually the nightmare will depart.

At this age they start worrying about the world around them and at about 8, they start to worry about their parent's safety. TV watching is usually the big thing, not necessarily the shows but the commercials or the news clips.

Try using a Dream catcher. Children have these wonderful fabulous imaginations and she may believe this will really help her. My son has one and keeps it under his pillow.

What is she dreaming about? Dreams are the way the body sorts out the waking world. Maybe you can address her fears if you know what they are.

Hugs to you both, C.

It could be blood sugar or a B vitamin deficiency. Take a look at her diet. Is she eating too much sugar or too many carbs in proportion to protein? Try adding some foods high in B vitamins to her diet and eliminate refined carbs and sugar and see if that helps.

I agree with a previous response. Be careful what that do right before bed. Be sure the last show they watch is light and cheerful or have a silly story telling session before bed. I also have had great success with a dream catcher. Look them up online so you can tell your daughter the history behind them and why they "work". You can buy them (they come in all sizes so the smaller ones are inexpensive) or even make them yourself out of a paper plate and yarn. Whatever you think she'll like best. And be sure she knows this is normal, everyone has dreams. You don't want her to start worrying that something is wrong with her or she's wierd. Rest assured, she will grow out of it.

I have had this issue with each child of mine that is over 2 years old now. For us they were night terrors. They wake up screaming and then like nothing at all, or just wake up having dreams about things like snakes, or dinosaurs or something like that. Sadly I have had to grow out most of them, although one of our kids has been and still is having them for the last 2 years of some nights she just doesnt stay asleep. I have found that no lights or tv and she sleeps through the night if there is a light or radio or tv on she wakes repeatedly.

I have also found a tiring activity right before bed and a nice soothing bath and lotion work wonders for a solid nights rest. Good luck I know its horrible to deal with at this age especially.

Watch very carefully what they are hearing from the TV. Some cartoons are very destrubing to their little minds. It may take a week or so of being sure only positive things go into their minds. Be careful there are no bickering in the home. All these things can cause bad dreams.

Also watch the amount of daily sugar. If they drink carbonated drinks, that washes out their calcium, this shortage will cause leg cramps and the bones actually hurt, this will cause easy bone breakage also.

Give then a lot of love and positive things to think about, a quite and dark place to sleep peacefully.
