To all the moms out there with preschool kids: How did you decide which preschool to send your little one to? My son will be 3 in November, so I want him to start preschool Fall 2011. I am thinking the first year 2 days then the second year 3 days a week. I have 7 preschools within a 2-3 mile radius of my house. 3 of the 7 are at local churches. I will also take recommendations for preschools in the Naperville IL area. I would prefer south of 75th Street.

Thank you

You should check out the school philosophy, hours, class size (most hold the same ratios, but ask just in case), teacher credentials (are they degreed?), how long the teacher has been doing the program, testimonials, goals for the kids (what will the kids learn during the year), and how are their days structured. You might also ask to speak with/interview a teacher or two and ask them why they like working for the company and what they enjoy most about working with that age group. Also consider asking for references from parents of kids in their program.

I work for The Compass School in Naperville and have had my son in this school's preschool and Private Kindergarten program, and used to have him in a Park District preschool program. He has done much better in the Compass program because of it's child-centered philosophy and project-based approach to learning, which meshes well with my son's personality. There can be many differences between school programs, and there are many good programs out there. Your familiy's preferences, goals for your child and your child's personality can help guide you in your search. Good luck!

Love, love a Montessori school. Check out Montessori Moppet Centre on 75th street. The school has been their forever and their philosophy about fostering independent and enthusiastic learners is what sold me. Definately worth a visit.

I know you said you wanted a preschool south of 75th street, however I just wanted to let you know about Trinity preschool which is located on Rt 53 between 63rd & Maple(north of 75th about 1 - 2 miles). I sent my son there, he is now in Kindergarten and doing really well and I attribute it to the great foundation he had at Trinity. They have been there for 30 years. If you would like me to expand on the positive, nurturing, learning and safe experience we had just send me a note.

Ditto on Peter Pan. Both of my boys go to/went to Peter Pan North which is on Oleson(off of Hobson just east of Washington). It is slightly smaller than the one on 75th Street. I chose it because while it prepares them for Kindergarten it is very play and social based. Feel free to send me a message with any questions.
