Hobson Cooperative Preschool

We're just starting to look into preschool options for our 3-yr. old son and was wondering if anyone out there has had any experience with Hobson Cooperative Preschool. This whole process of finding a good school, and especially one that is a philosophical fit seems so hard. We don't care so much at this point about finding a place with an emphasis on academics, but we do care about a preschool with quality instructors that encourage socialization, creatvity and cooperation. Any thoughts on other schools would also be appreciated as we try to navigate through all our many options. Thanks in advance for any advice or personal thoughts based on your own experiences.

I considered Hobson co-op and have friends who's kids attended. It is an excellent preschool! If you choose it your son will be in a good environment and you will make friends as well. Among other things I felt I was unable to contribute the time needed for a co-op, so I chose Weekday Children's Center, which has a philosophy of learning through play. I was extremely happy with this preschool. Take the time to learn about this preschool and it's philosophy.

HI -

Hi, I never opened one of these e-mails to me before and didn't notice that you were local. We love Four Winds Waldorf School in Warrenville, Il. You can visit, tour the school and go to seminars on the philosophy.....it's a wonderful education for parents too!

Hope this helps!

I recommend that you look into a waldorf school in your area. The waldorf philosophy is based on creativity, cooperation and socialization.....and that the whole child needs to be nurtured. For example, the snacks in preschool are organic, in high school they have circus troops instead of football teams, they have an active "social inclusion" program to prevent bulleying. My children LOVE school. They learn 2 languages, 2 instruments, movement work, handwork (knitting, woodwork, etc) along with all the regular subjects....it's wonderful! Just google waldorf education....I know there are many school in california.

Good luck!

I lived in Naperville during my first 3 childrens preschool years. All three attened Hobson and I was involved on the parent board. It was a wonderful experience. I was attracted to it for two reasons. One, it is a play based learning experience and two, there is a lot of parental involvement. The kids spent a lot of time outdoors which was also a plus for us. I now live in Geneva and have a fourth - I wish Hobson were closer - I would be back for sure. Hope this was helpful.

ps My older 3, now 16, 15, 12 all love driving by and/or stopping at hobson. The now director, Patrice Sullivan was a teacher for 2 of mine, and she still remembered them when we stopped by. What a great educator.

We love Mrs Whiting at Hope Lutheran Preschool. But it's off route 59, a couple miles north of I-88. I don't know where you live.

I don't know where you live, but my son goes to Peaceful Hearts Christian preschool in Plainfield and we love it. I can tell you that most schools have already started registration for next year. You should make a decision soon.

I have heard good things about it. You do have to make a fairly big time commitment as a parent.

My son goes to Peter Pan North on Oleson(just off of Hobson). I have been very pleased with the school. All of the teachers have been there for years and they have a fantastic play based curriculum with academics mixed in.

Ditto on what the previous poster said though. Most schools are a month into registration so spots are going to be limited in the more popular pre-schools.
