Preschool Compared to Mother's Day Out. Good Preschools in Garland or Lake Highl

I am in the process of researching preschools for my three year old who will be four in August. However, I am not seeing much of a difference in the curriculum between some of the preschools and the Mother's Day out that she is already in. I need some advice or opinions on whether I should just keep my daughter where she is at in Mother's Day out until kindergarten or should I put her in preschool. If so, does anyone know of some good preschools in Garland or Lake Highlands? Please advise.

What can I do next?

If you're happy and feel comfortable with her there, I say keep her there. Nothing trumps your childs safety and happiness. She's going to learn all she needs to for Kindergarten if she knows her abc's, primary colors, shapes and can count to 10. And she can probably learn that at home. But if you want a recommendation, we sent our boys to Blue Ivey Preschool in Garland. I love that school! They were great with the boys. They taught simple spanish words, simple reading words and the boys loved it. Email me if you want more info.

My children's MDO was almost identical to a preschool. They just didn't get the additional licensing needed to be officially called a "preschool" for the older grades (PK3 & PK4). But my daughter had a wonderful experience and actually came into kindergarten knowing much more than many of the other kids in her class. So realize that sometimes the only difference between a MDO and a preschool is paperwork.

There is not any difference..really. Same type of curriculum - if you're happy at the MDO, keep her there instead of switching schools this year and then again next year for kinder. If you're concerned about this then I'm sure you are a wonderful mother and your daughter already knows what she needs to know for kindergarten.

My boys are in the 8th Grade and 4th Grade now, so things may have changed, but after looking around, I decided to leave them in Mother's Day Out. Most of them offer some learning experience and they are much cheaper and last longer. I was very pleased with the program at First Baptist Garland Mother's Day Out. My children were both more than ready for Kindergarten and were accepted in the advanced Talented and Gifted Magnet program. The most important thing they need to learn in preschool is socialization - being away from Mama, taking turns, sitting in a chair, listening to instructions, etc. All Kindergartens (even the advanced one my children were in) have to go over the basics, because not all kids are at the same place. I have heard many good things about the preschool at First United Methodist in downtown Garland, but it is only from 9 to 12 and cost more than Mother's Day Out. If your child is happy and you feel she will be learning some things, I would save the money and keep her in Mother's Day Out.

Hi D.,

My daughter is 4 and attends New World Day School. She actually started there last year and I have been very pleased with the curriculm. They have a 2 day, 3 day and 5 day program. One of the things that my daughter is working on is Phonics. They work on letters, colors, writing their name as well. Last year in the 3 year old program they studied different artist like Michangelo and worked paint in the style of the artist. So for Michangelo they taped paper to the bottom of the tables and the kids laid on their backs to paint the picture. They are located on Northwest Hwy just east of Centerville Rd.

Cheers,

Hi I am not sure about preschools in this area but in general from my experiece a Pre-K program is pretty similar in the basics at both good mothers day out and a regular preschool. I would look for class sizes and teacher ratios bc these do vary. The curriculum unless you go to a montessori is mostly play based thematic learning. Its really not academic in the slightest bit. I do think that for a 4 year old program they can offer more academics but I have been dissapointed at even really good preschools in the Dallas area in this regard. Some of the nicer preschools in Dallas offer enrichment classes in spanish and art and motor among others...tuition is also about $6,000-$8,000 a year.
Good luck.
