I am having a difficult time lately right before my menstral cycle begins. I am getting really depressed and unmotivated to do anything two weeks before my periord and I get really irritated all the time. I guess looking back this has always been there just when it was just me I didn't care about a dirty house or if I didnt' feel energetic that night to make dinner. Now I have a family and it makes me feel so guilty when I don't get the things I need to accomplished.

I also think that lately life stresses have added to make my PMS a lot worse than ususal.

What I want to know is get some suggestions of something I can take to calm my nerves, something natural so that I can feel more focused during these times and stop terrorizing my poor family. Things are tough enough for us already I don't need to be adding to the stress with my yelling about little things because I'm always feeling irritated.

For about two weeks out of the month I feel emotionally out of control sometimes and I want it to stop. I just wanted to get some suggestions from you guys that I can take back to my Dr. I've not really delt with this before so I'm starting at square one.

Thanks Moms.

I at one time had severe mood swings right before menstruation as well. I discovered that it was from the hormones in the birth control pills I was taking. Those mood swings (irritibility, depression) went away when I stopped taking birth control pills.

L., Absolutely check with your doctor and have your thyroid and all hormone levels checked. Arbonne carries a great progesterone cream and it is all natural. After you see your doctor, let me know if you want to try some of the Arbonne cream & I will send it to you.

Hi L.,
I related to each one of your PMS symptoms. I always thought PMS was normal and I just had to deal w/ that rough two weeks but this past year (I did not have my period while nursing and when it came back I noticed this terrible PMS "monster" come out in me) it got so bad that I finally talked to my doctor about it. She said it sounded like premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), a severe form of premenstrual syndrome (PMS), a cluster of emotional, motivational, cognitive, and behavioral changes which occur in regular association with elevated estrogen levels immediately prior to, or during the early phases, of menstruation. I am not the type to go on medication for almost anything! I am very healthy and do not like putting anything unnatural in my body. HOWEVER..... I couldn't handle another month of those horrible feelings you describe.
My family was suffering b/c of my terrible mood swings- we were all miserable for two weeks out of the month! So, I went on "SERAFEM" for PMDD (prozac). It has made a world of difference. I still feel a little edgy during my PMS time, but nothing like before.
My kids/husband are happier b/c mommy is not so grumpy and sad anymore! Perhaps this is the condition you have? I had it while I was younger as well but had never heard of PMDD and always thought I just had to snap out of it. I wish I had known sooner!
Good luck to you;>

I was having similar problems as well and feeling extremely tired all of the time. My Gyn checked my thyroid and for anemia (which were fine). She prescribed some progesterone cream (I have to go to a compounding pharmacy)that I apply twice a day from ovulation to the start of my period. I definitely notice a difference in my level of irritability. I'm sure you've heard this a billion times but I also notice a big difference on the days that I am up before the kids and get in some exercise.

Good Luck!!!

Steamed soy beans really help me a lot. It also keeps the cramping down.
