I had my two youngest boys completely day trained for about a week, then my husband went away for school and 2 weeks after he left, both of my sons digressed back to the beginning. Now I am still struggling with the potty training and at a loss as far as what to do to get them to use the toilet. One is 5 and the other 4. They both know how to go on the toilet, they just don't. This is very frustrating because they both go to school and are having accidents at school. If anyone can help me out with suggestions it would be very much appreciated.

What can I do next?

Hi
Sounds like your boys might be regressing due to stress. It is pretty common when there are big changes at home. Stick to it, and offer lots of rewards, praise and attention when they go in the potty. Maybe you could set up a reward system, where they get a toy after a certain number of dry days etc.
Good luck

A., this sounds like a rebelion to me, most 2 year olds are potty trained, they are way past the potty training age, it's time for some old fashion discipline. Mom for 24 years J.

You really need to sit down and talk to your boys about how they're feeling right now. No amount of rewards or ploys will help if the problem is rooted in their feelings about their father leaving or other issues.
Find out what's going on in their heads and hearts and see if you can help them through it. Then if you are still having regression issues, check out these links :)

I did have a question when did you start potty training the 4 and 5 year old? Has it been a long time or short time?

If it has been a longer time then they know better and even though its related to stress/there dad leaving for awhile they need to use the potty especially at 4 and 5. You need to let them know that it is not okay to ahve accidents just bc they don't want to go. Unforteniatly it comes down to punishing them for not using the potty. If they understand and just refuse to use the potty start putting them in the corner and letting them know that you don't like there behavior. They are just too old to have accidents bc they refuse to use the potty.
