My son Owen was not completelty potty-trained until he was 3 and a half. A potty chart worked best for us. We made one up on our own. It had 12 squares that he got to put a sticker on each time he went in the potty. For poop, he got to put a Superman sticker, which was "better" than the other stickers. Everytime he filled the chart with stickers, all 12 squares, he got a (reasonable) prize that he got to pick out.

Hope this helps!

My guy was the same exact way. Would go pee, but no poopies ;) Untill one day he just did it. A week before his third birthday. His pediatrician said, start at 2, be trained by 3, start at 3, be trained at 3. Dont fret, it will happen.

We went through this with our son when he was three. We had to stop trying to potty train him for awhile because his refusing to go was causing constipation problems. Eventually he just decided to start going without any pressure from us. I think it was a couple months before his fourth birthday when he was fully potty trained. My daughter was potty trained before she turned three, however girls are usually a little quicker than boys with this. Hope everything goes well.

This is not an uncommon issue. (My 4yr old daughter is still afraid of the toilet when it flushes...especially automatic flushers.)
Here is a suggestion that my sister used with my nephew. He was 3 and was very frightened of the toilet. My sister took my nephew into the bathroom. She sat on the toilet and flushed it while sitting on it. She then stood up and had my nephew flush the toilet and watch the water go down...maybe even some toilet paper. Then she reassured him that he could never be flushed down. She put her foot into the toilet and flushed. She then had my nephew put both his feet in. It took some coaxing and reassuring that "Mommy has you. I won't let anything bad happen." He eventually did it and flushed it. When he realized he wasn't in danger, pooping on the toilet was no longer a problem.
PS If you try this, of course, make sure you wash the toilet!
Good luck!

I'm not sure why but I think every child has trouble with going poop in the potty:)
My daughter wouldn't go but once she did, she always did. I think once they do it, it gets better and they aren't afraid.
However, a friend of mines son would not go poop in the potty until he was 3 or almost 4. She would just throw the underwear away if they were really bad.
Maybe there is some information on the computer about how to make this easier?
Good luck!

my daughter got fully trained at closer to 3(plus a few months)-boys tend to be a bit harder- years, pull-ups for now would probably be best.
