Hi! A couple days a month, after I ovulate, I am super irritable. This rubs off on my kids and we are all miserable. I also am tired, but can't sleep! These may be mild symptoms, but they drive me crazy. I feel like a little devil has taken over my body and mind. Anyone have something that helps them? I don't like tea, but would try it. I've seen the PMS tea..but it says not to use it while nursing.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all the ideas, it is good to know that I am not the only one going thru this! =-) one thing I found that worked immidiately, is a friend to take my 3 yr old while the 8 month old took a nap and I was able to get a nap too! I live in rural SE Alaska, so will have to do some research as to where I can get some products and then we'll see what happens.

I noticed in a previous post that you did that you use Mirena, I wonder if this is a side effect of that. But I take a Zinc supplement to offset PMS and you can notice the difference after a month of taking it. If you do take it and nothing changes then it might be the Mirena. Just another option besides the tea.

I have the same problem. Simple as it sounds, Vitamin B6 has helped quite a bit. It doesn't solve it completely, but it helps a lot.

Hi! Boy can I relate to what you are feeling. I have 3 children and when they were small those PMS Days were difficult. I found the best thing that I did for myself and my kids and my husband, was start taking great nutritional products. I made sure that in the morning and evening I took, chelated minerals, antioxidants, and Omega Fatty acids.
I started drinking an organic protein drink as well as walking. My symptoms really diminished. You can also find creams in the organic sections of grocery stores that really help you for those times. You use them kind of like lotions. The nutritional companies that I found with the best products are: USANA, Isagenix and Pharmanex. They are all organic and scientific based with teams of Ph.d's that do nutritional research. My years as a young mother went quickly, but interestingly enough as I head into the perimeopause and menopause years, the symptoms that accompany those years have diminished as well because I took such good care of my body as a young mother. Good Luck. If you have any questions feel free to write. PS: I have 3 kids, 22, 19 and 16. My husband and I own a woman's health center.

Evening Primrose Oil is supposed to be a remedy for PMS. I was googling it the other day and that was listed as one of its benefits. Something about replacing the fatty oils your body needs during that time...

Hello Becky,

You could try Natural Calm. It's made by Peter Gillham. It's amazing. It actually helps with several different symtoms. It is a natural magnesium which no one ever gets in a regular diet, however it is the #1 most inportant mineral to get. I believe you can google it. Read up on it. You can buy it at most health food stores. I actually can get it in the health food dept of our reg. food store.

Good Luck.

I have found adding Flaxseed Oil supplement (Fish Oil works as well) to my daily supplements, has made my PMS SO much better. I didn't even notice it last month, and the month before (when I wasn't supplementing) I had to lock myself up from my play friends so I was sure not to snarl and hurt someones feelings - I knew it was that bad.

Good luck!

I had a mild to moderate PMS problem. At the time there was little available for treating it. Since my menapause, I've seen books written about it and have heard of some medications. Someone younger will write about their experiences here but I also recommend reading a book so that you can get the whole picture. I think the library probably has them.

The field of homeopathy has done wonders in this area of PMS and general hormonal imbalances. As you shared here being tired, can't sleep, something taking over your body and mind, are all connected and may very well be able to be resolved. Constitutional treatment is gentle, safe (even for nursing) and effective since it works on the whole person (emotional, mental, physical) with one indivualized remedy at a time to heal the root cause :)

A tea would herbally dose you with a natural chemical that may alleviate some symptoms but would be unable to reach and resolve that root as a whole person.

Best wishes,
Liz

I love Pamprin! But I think that is out until you are done nursing. But if you can figure out which day or days in advance - then tell the people close to you. I knew that on the first day of my period was the day that I turn the phone off and that was the day I clean house or reorganize my office or bake or or do something alone so that i could avoid talking to people as much as possible. I let my boss, friends etc know that if I seemed cranky it was not because of them it was just my day, but I told them at the begining of the day, then it made it easier for them to understand and we could laugh about my bad mood instead of having them offended.
I am so glad that I have not dealt with that for the past 3 years, my hormones are just starting to get back to normal after nursing baby for 2 1/2 years, so we will see if I go back that way. I hope not, but Pamprin is on the shelf waiting, and I know there are several closets that need to be gone through. Good luck with finding right thing for you and will work in you life. Maybe a cup of tea and spend the day reading in the tub, or that is the day you get your hair and nails done. Or hubby brings home dinner that night and you get the kids to take turns rubbing your feet because mommy doesn't feel good and that would make her feel better. I really think that letting people know that you are cranky and why makes a difference. My husband has been extra irritable the last few months and I thought he was angry for things I did or didn't do, and I just found out he was in alot of stress because his folks are having problems and the family business which he inherited part of, is having legal issues that may affect us keeping the family home. Now that I knkow it is not about me, we are both happier because I can be understanding instead of offended.

I know many women who have gotten great relief from these sort of things using the nutritional shakes we use and distribute. I personally got results with hormone balance just as I was going into premenapause and am so thankful I found out about them at that time! My whole family has seen noticeable results. I can let you talk to and ask questions of someone who has dealt with PMS and taken these shakes while pregnant and hear what they saw. Email me and I will give you a website where you can check more into learn about them as well. Optimal nutrition can make an amazing difference in our health and thus as you refered to it effects our whole family! ____@____.com

Hello Becky,
If you are tired but can't sleep, that is not a mild symptom, that's a big deal when you are a mom!!! I used to have alot of trouble with PMS and found it helped me to cut processed sugars and caffeine out of my diet. It seemed extreme to do this all the time for just those occasional bad days but I was desperate and it was better than checking myself into the psych ward once a month! Good luck on finding what works for you.

Hi,

I have had great success reducing PMS and ovulation irritability with BioDim. It is a food based supplement made from cruciferous vegetables that helps the body rid itself of excess estrogen. I first heard about it from Susan Matsuo of The Compounding Apothecary (now in Edmonds, was by Greenlake). She recommended it to me because my mother had breast cancer and there is a lot of evidence to suggest that all the estogens in our environment (from plastics, etc.) are one of the causes of breast cancer. I don't know how effective it is by itself for the mood stuff-I think it is- because I use it in combination with a natural progesterone cream which has been miraculous for me. I knew I was low progesterone because of charting my cycle for a long time (See "Taking Charge of your Fertility" by Toni Weschler-not just about fertility, all about our reproductive health). Susan Matsuo pretty much agrees with everything in John R. Lee's earlier book (I haven't seen his more recent ones to know if he's changed and I haven't talked to Susan in a few years...) except that she believes some people need much higher doses of progesterone than he was recommending.

One other thought is the supplement "GABA" which is an enzyme (I believe) that is called "nature's valium". But that doesn't address the underlying hormonal reasons for the irritability. Oh, and one warning-if you do start using progesterone cream, there can be a month (possibly 2?) when the irritability gets WORSE before it gets better. I remember Susan describing something about the receptors getting woken up or ??? not sure of the details but I did have to call her and get reasured the first month.

Good luck!

M.

Becky, would you like prescription drug relief or natural relief? I've gone with natural relief. My cramps have subsided considerably and my bleeding has also diminished.

Now ladies, please tune in here for a moment. There are so many of you with the same questions. There is an answer.

You've asked, now here is the answer, and it's scientifically and medically sound proof.

Drink 6 tablespoons of XanGo a day (2 Tbls three times a day with meals) Are any of you laughing yet? Well, let the cramping and irritability continue every month then, it's your choice.

I've taken my own advice for a year now and I've had considerable positive PMS benefits. Just ask my husband. Are you still skeptical. That's OK. My body and your body are the same at the cellular level.

I'll put ALL my information on the bottom so the world can see. Oh by the way, the same 6 TBLS daily has terminated my acid reflux, terminated sinus infections, terminated chronic pain, boosted energy, improved my sleep, terminated my husband's severe Fibromyalgia, terminated his chronic pain and he stopped using narcotic pain relievers (morphine, vicodin, oxycontin) and significantly improved my sons eczema, asthma, and ADD. How? Cellular rejuvenation, simple.

Well, it's your choice.

I am so glad you asked! Reliv offers nutrition that is safe for anyone even nursing moms! Their nutrition works at a cellular level and from personal experience is so much more effective than any other multi-vitamin option out there. I feel so much better and it helps me with my mood swings. I have never had troubles sleeping but my friend Karen said that she sleeps like a baby now when she takes Reliv. As a distributor, you just let me know and I can help you some more.

Best luck,
