I always take it off and wash it in the washing machine after every accident. I have couple so I can quickly remake the bed while the other one is in the wash. I can smell it other wise.
Hi, everyone!
Just wondering what other people do with the plastic mattress covers when their kids have nighttime pee accidents? Do you take the entire thing off and throw it in the washing machine? Or do you just wipe it down? If you wipe it down, what do you use? Just a wet towel? Soap and water? Detergent?
Thanks!

Thanks, everyone. This was mostly to settle an argument with my husband. Our son very rarely has accidents - maybe five in the year since he's been potty trained and most of them was when he was sick. But he had one last night, and my husband thought it was sufficient to wipe down the plastic sheet that is under his regular sheet with a wet towel. I disagreed but was wondering what other people do.

If they have had a few accidents in a row then in the am I would wash everything but if it was a one time thing I have bleach/water spray bottle and would spray the bed and wipe it down then make the bed.

We just cleaned up the mess area with soap, water, and a little bleach. We always had a sheet over the plastic so it was more comfortable for our kids and that we would change since it soaked up the pee pretty good.
I used to wipe it down but now I dont have one, we put a cloth mattress pad on tha mattress, covered by a fitted sheet, on top of that another mattress pad and another fitted sheet. when he has an accident we just take off the top layer. saves work in the middle of the night-on a loft bed!
