I am going to be moving my daughter from a crib to a twin bed and am looking for a mattress cover. I want it to be waterproof and maybe dust mite proof but am wondering if there were any in particular other mom's recommend before I buy.

my neighbor recently told me she uses just a plastic zip around cover that she got at WalMart for $5. She uses is for all 3 of her kids (one has allergies and another has accidents). So I bought two of them for my guys and LOVE it. I use to use the fabric waterproof mattress covers but urine would still be able to seap through somehow. No issues with this new cover.

Good luck!

We have bought mattress covers at KMart and Walmart. I have found the ones that totally envelop the mattress work best (they zip). Then I put a mattress pad on top of the plastic mattress cover.
Good luck.

I purchased one at walmart they are packaged in black and red packaging they are either called anti-allergen or aller-ease they make pillow and mattress covers they are waterproof. My asthmatic and allergy children sleep much better w/ these. I also use the clorox anti allergy fabric spray. You are able to just wipe down these covers if they have an accident. At one time I had the kind that were fabric on top and lined w/ plastic and they worked well but after a few washing the lining tore so they were useless so I recommend a plastic pad that you can just wipe.

I just moved my daughter to a full size bed, and bought a mattress cover which is waterproof, and comfy, not the vinyl. I bought it at Bed Bath & Beyond.
i had a 20% coupon (look online and see if they have one).
Therapedic waterproof mattress pad.
it was recommended to me.
it is waterproof and antimicrobial.
i highly recommend it.

We just went through this same thing! I kept finding covers that were vinyl and felt and smelled very plasticky!
I finally found a waterproof mattress cover at Kohls. It is soft and a bit padded, but it is waterproof without being crinkly. I liked it so much that I went and bought one for our master bed too!
I believe it's a Kohl's brand, but they only had 5 or 6 so it should be pretty easy to locate the right one.

I've also used the covers that zip, didnt care for it. I found a waterproof mattress cover that had a plastic lining, worked great until it tore, probably from washing a few times. I finally found a plastic matress cover that goes on like a fitted sheet. That way if there sould be an accident, i can just wipe it down without removing it.
