Plastic Mattress Cover / Sheet for Twin Bed

I recently moved my son to his big boy bed and he's doing great! I had a "plastic" sheet that went on top of his sheets on the crib that snapped to the bed rails. I loved this and would love it if they had something similar for a twin bed. What do you use for your older kids to protect the mattress?

What can I do next?

You can buy washable waterproof mattress covers for twin beds at Target or Walmart for about $10 to $15 depending on if they are on sale. I have had them for both my kids beds since they were 2 and love them.

I bought waterproof mattress pads from Khols for all of our beds.

They are somewhat of a pain to wash but they do protect the mattresses.

Good Luck

It's been awhile since I bought one, but I bought a fitted plastic cover that went under the regular fitted sheet and it worked great. I'm pretty sure that I got it at Target or Wal-mart. My son is almost eight now so it's hard to remember which place I got it. Good luck finding what your looking for.

They make mattress covers for regular beds. I would call different stores and speak to someone in the bedding dept. to see if they sell them before driving around looking for them.

I used a waterproof sheeting -- kind of a flannel-like feel -- that I bought at JoAnn's between the mattress pad and the sheet.

Ive got waterproof matress protectors on all my kids beds...Not just for 'accidents' but they are also great for if they get sick (we found out they work great for throw up too). I bought all three at walmart. They are quilted on the top (so its nice and soft) and they are really durable. Ive had to wash them a ton for my boys who are 4, and they hold up great. I think for twin size the were around $12.99.

I took a friend's advice and it has been working out well for us. I bought a vinyl mattress cover and a non waterproof quilted mattress protector to go over it. The vinyl cover protects the mattress and putting the quilted protector over it keeps your child from inhaling harmful toxins from the vinyl. I was told from experience if you wash a waterproof mattress protector too many times, it will be ruined and not be waterproof any longer. (I bought both of these items at Bed, Bath and Beyond, $6 for Vinyl and $20 for mattress protector)

In addition I put a small waterproof pad over that (the one I was using in his crib) just to cover the area where my son sleeps, just in case there is an accident in the middle of the night all I have to do is change the small pad and not have to change the whole bed.

I bought a zippered plastic covering for my daughters twin bed. It is a pain to get the matress in at first but once it is in, you dont have to worry about it. Then I purchased 2 waterproff matress pads, ( I always keep one as a spare). Encase there is an accident, I just take off the matress pad, the zippered plastic one stays on the bed and I change out the matress pad with my spare. I think I bought them at walmart or target. it works great on those accidents, but also spills from drinks as well. Good luck

My son wets the bed still, so here's what I use:
A waterproof fitted mattress cover - invest in a good one because the cheap ones will crack and be useless after a little while. The price difference isn't much (like $15 vs. $25) and it's worth it because the better ones breathe much more and don't make your child sweat at night.

On top of that, I have purchased a flat twin mattress protector. It is not fitted but it's plenty big and it covers the mattress side-to-side and almost the whole length of the twin bed. I have bought them at Wal-Mart and also at Target. They are in the aisle by the pillows and will be stocked with the pillow protectors and other allergen/dust mite protection items. For twin size, I have paid around $10 for one. They are flocked cloth on one side and plastic on the other. This is nice for me because when my child wets at night, often I will keep the mattress protector with the cloth side down (plastic side up) and when he gets up in the middle of the night to change his pajamas, I can use some clorox clean-up spray or a Lysol wipe or some other anti-bacterial spray to wipe down the pad, then redress the bed with clean sheets. Then I can wash it in the morning. THis cuts down on my laundry a little bit. But if he has an accident, then he still has the fitted waterproof mattress pad underneath to keep the mattress protected.

I know, probably too much information! But I wanted to share my "system" with you. Hope that helps!

They have them at Target for $7.99

Easy to clean... just spray and wipe. And because the cover both side of the mattress, you can flip the mattress whenever you need without taking it off. The only negative... when my kids had these, they get a little loud if they roll around a lot when they sleep. Didn't bother either of my kids... just me if I was in there reading to them : )

Good luck!

You can go to Sleep Experts and buy a mattress pad. I have one for both my kids the great thing about these is that they have a warranty. If anything gets through the pad they will come out and clean it if they can't get it out they will replace the mattress. Plus they don't make the kids hot some water proof pad tend to.

YES>>>>>>>>>>> I have an 8 year old who has never had an accident in his life. WELL, the other night he dreamed he was going to the bathroom - he was going alright... He was sleeping in his brothers full bed that is away at college and thanks goodness he had an eggshell on top of his mattress, I barely got the eggshell in the washer and then put outside to dry in the heat and only a small amount reached the mattress. It could of really been bad though. I AM going to get a cover for his own bed now - just incase he has anymore dreams.. They do sell them at Walmarts and just zip up with the mattress inside. Very Inexpensive.
