Hi Mamas! I could really use your opinion. My colleagues and I are putting on a one day family conference in Alberta, Canada called Family Rules. It will be from 9 AM to 4 PM and the entire family is invited to attend. There will be three areas of focus, food, finances and fundamentals. We are splitting up mom, dad and kids and each group gets each of the sessions at their own levels and then they come together at the end of the day to create their "family rules" playbook.

My question is this, we are looking at dates and are thinking that NOVEMBER 11 would be a great day to host the conference. The kids are out of school and some parents get the day off or need to take it off for their kids. I would love some feed back as to why or why not on this day. What comes up for you about doing a family conference on that day? Our alternative date would be Saturday November 6.

feed back please!

Being a military wife, that would be a bad choice for me. We usually try to go to a Veteran's Day parade or get together with family & other soldiers to celebrate.

Though if your family doesn't have any military affiliation, it might be ok.

I just looked at a calendar & the 11th is on a Thursday. People might prefer the Saturday date so that they can have the next day to rest, rather than go back to work! :)

Having veterans in my family and as friends I would say November 11th would be out for me and could possibly be out for some of your colleagues.

Defintiely the weekend. Not everyone has off on that day and weekends are just easier for the family to get together. If you are putting all the kids in one group that may be hard. Kids are at different stages and levels of development. Can you imagine the 5 year old interacting with the 12 year old? Since you didn't really include details, you may want to be very detailed about grouping the children for your event understanding some moms and dads may not want to be separated from their kids and vice versa.

I personally would prefer weekend, I would not have to take off the day and the kids are off too, so 11/6 is what I would prefer if I were involved.

a weekend day would seem to be best for families as dad may not want to take a day off of work.
