Moms, do any of you have this problem...my underarms itch to death? It doesn't matter if I shave them everyday or if I skip a couple days, if I use spray deodorant or roll on, or what brand of shaving cream or razor I use. Any ideas or suggestions what could possibly causing this?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I have tried putting lotion on them at bedtime. I can't really say that has made a difference though. I have stopped using shaving cream to shave under my arms and am using Dove Sensitive Bar Soap- can't really say that has helped either. I am going to buy a deodorant instead of anti-pers. Thanks for the suggestions.

When I switched to a deodorant (NOT antiperspirant, this lessened for me), I do still get dry sometimes, but it is so much better.

You may need some moisturizer. I would try slathering lotion in the pits before you go to bed at night- something without dyes or fragrance, like cetaphil. Or, Dove deodorant has an added moisturizer.

Could also be an allergy to something in your deodorant. Is there a rash also, or just an itch? I would try switching to an 'all-natural' deodorant and see if maybe that helps? Or, you could try slathering some hydrocortisone on there WITH the lotion at night.

Lastly, it could be bacteria... so I would try some neosporin also.

To cover all three possibilities, mix the lotion, hydrocortisone, and neosporin, and slather it in those pits at bedtime.

Holy smokes - YES!!! So glad to hear I'm not alone on this one.

I did have a doctor tell me once that it might be a fungal issue due to it being an area that had a tendency to stay moist. I have used lotion at night (at one time I thought it might be a dry skin issue), skipped a day of shaving (I know - gross), powder, and an anti-itch cream. I have recently started using a Lotrimin cream (I think it is normally for athletes foot) which is helping a lot. So, I guess the doc was probably right. It's not 100% cured but is a lot better. I think this is one of those things that takes a little while to knock out so be diligent about applying it.

Good luck!

Mine do this when my lymph nodes are flaring up. Also, it's worse when the humidity goes down so I put lotion on them. This is gross but I hardly ever shave. My husband says I need to "save the forest"! Ha!

I think it is stretching it to think you have cancer because of your deoderant products. If you look at the big picture.....everything everywhere has some negative effect to worry about. Choose your soories carefullly.

That said, have you recently switched laundry detergents, soap, deoderant/antipersperant?

Could be as simple as an allergy to a new product.

If you are still concerned, go to the dermatologist and have it checked.

I have sensitive skin and if I use any kind of deodorant with "invisible solid" or anything of that sort I itch like crazy. Have you tried just plain solid to see if that helps?

Many bath/body products have dangerous chemicals in them that can actually cause lots of harm - even cancer! The aluminum that is added to antiperspirants is metal-derived, and over time, can absorb into our skin in that delicate underarm area and cause itchiness(or worse). I help families convert their home products to SAFE items, and that includes a phenomenal deodorant that I shop for that uses aluminum derived from SALT - which equals NO ITCH, and no harmful side effects! I'd be happy to discuss it further with you - feel free to contact me at ____@____.com or ###-###-####. :)

Could have eczema. You also could have bacteria overgrowth. Pick up some Hibiclens in the stores medical isle. costs about 5 bucks. Wash your under arms with it and see if this helps

I have the same problem whenever I shave. I switched to waxing my underarms and that seemed to help a lot. I recently had to shave them for an event and it nearly drove me crazy! I guess it is irritation from the razor and stubble growing back that causes the itch. You may have to shop around to find the best wax kit for you but it is worth it! Best of luck!
