Hello moms. Ever since I can remember I have always had somehat of a razor burn. My underarms always have bumps and I want to get rid of them. I am wondering if anyone else has this problem and if there are any suggestions i could try. I have tried waxing and that was a painful experience and it didn't even work. I am not allergic to anything so I know thats not a problem. Any advice woud help. I want to get it cleared up before summer.

What can I do next?

I'm a little late in my response, but here it is anyway. I, too, have razor 'upset' when shaving armpits, legs, bikini. After all MY research, I found that the products intended for black men with razor bumps work the best. There is always a pic of a bald headed black man on the package. THAT STUFF WORKS!!!! It specifically is aimed towards razor bumps.

Good Luck!!

I used to struggle with the same thing. I started using Dove invisible solid and they went away and have never come back.

I thought I was going to be the savior by recommending coochie shaving cream, but it looks like a few others have beat me to it. The stuff works great! You can order it at athenashn.com. WARNING this is an adult website, if you know what I mean. But the shaving lotion is awesome!

Are you sure it is razor burn? You may be allergic to either your antiperspirant or your shaving cream. Switch to something mild or try a few days with no antiperspirant at all and see if you improve.

waxing takes awhile to work for you to have lil to no underarm hair...id say from getting it done myself maybe over a couple months time, waxing twice a month. i went to trade school for skin care and sounds to me like your just really sensitive to everything. im the same, i get razor bumps and now that im prego i dont bother with razors i just buzz the hair off. but baby oil helps with razor burn. if i dont use it i end up feeling like my legs are are on fire, even if i use lotion. but a lil baby oil does a lot. i usally use the one with lavender and aloe in it to soothe irratation.

Laser treatment will solve that problem forever (you'd never have to shave again). I don't believe the underarms are all that expensive either.

I run into the same issue. I don't shave often, but found that using acne products help manage flare ups. I use a product like Basis to lather up and then moisturize with Aveeno Clear Complexion. It surely helps control any bacteria that causes the red bumps.

How often are you shaving? It's important to give your skin a break from the razor. When I'm not going sleeveless, I don't shave. It gives that area time to rest and heal. My next shave feels so fresh! When I do shave, I use warm water and conditioner to open my pores and condition the hair and my skin, prep it for the razor trauma. Afterward, I rinse with cold water to close my pores and use an astringent (witch hazel or tea tree oil or alcohol) to fend off bacteria.

Then, be careful about the deodorant or antiperspirant that you use. Dove moisturizing is a good one, if you're okay with antiperspirants. Natural deodorants are gentler on skin long term.

Try Tend Skin. I didn't try it on my underarms, but I used it on my bikini line and didn't get red bumps. It's an after shave liquid. It's available at Sephora so you don't have to go to an adult site to get it!

I use Crystal, the natural mineral salt deoderant. I no longer have razor bumps (I only shave 2, maybe 3 times a week), and I have noticed I no longer have that dark shadow to my skin in the area where I used to apply my deoderant. It costs about what the brand name deoderants cost, but it lasts much longer. I just replaced mine after a 19 months.

Do you shave w/soap in the shower? Do you shave 'up' (with the grain) or 'down' (against the grain)? If you shave 'dry' then you most likely will get razor burn. If you shave 'down' against the hair growth then you most likely will get razor bumps. Try using a shave gel for sensitive skin. I got mine at WalMart & it's fairly cheap. The one I bought stayed on when wet so try to look for one that doesn't run off or turn the showerhead off when shaving to ensure the gel or soap stays on while shaving. Make sure the area is wet & for that area (as w/any area) you should shave upwards 'with' the grain/hair growth direction. Of course that may not always wk. Hope these suggestions help if you haven't done them already. If not, try changing razor styles/brands (I use the Venus razor, the blue one) or changing soap to body wash or gel. I tried the laser hair removal but all it did was waste a lot of money. It can cost between $1500-$3000 & after 3 yrs worth of treatments (18 total) it still grows as if I never had any treatments so I'd use caution when going to a 'laser hair removal' clinic. Check their satisfied customer list, at least online at complaints.com type websites. Good luck.

I had this for a long time. What worked for me was switching to a new deodorant. I, also, have no known allergies, but it seemed to work. I switched to Dove.

I'm wondering if maybe it's not razor burn since you say you've always had the bumps. With razor burn the bumps usually go away after a few days. You could have another skin condition like keratosis or foliculitis. Keratosis is caused by too much keratin in the skin and foliculitis is inflmation of the folicles and can be cleared up with medications.

Definitely use shaving gel for sensitive skin or body wash, never soap. Also underarm hair grows in every direction so there is no "grain" per say. You may want to try shaving up or down from left to right like a zig zag, or sideways instead of straight up and down. Also apply lotion after shaving and don't apply deoderant right away if you can help it. It also could be your deoderant even though you don't have any other skin allergies. You may want to try a deoderant for sensitive skin. I know Dove works great for your skin, but isn't real great for odor control so don't use Dove before working out lol!

Let us know if you find something that workss!

Maybe its the razor you are using. A dull blade will also cause razor burn. I use the Schick Quattro which is a man's razor. It has a good blade, but I also change it out after every other use. Of course I only shave about twice a week, so if you shave everyday then it could get expensive. Unless your man complains, then you shouldn't have to shave more than twice a week. I hope this helps.
