Period Question - Fond du Lac,WI

During the first 24-36 hours of my period (not continuous though), if I am standing, I experience vaginal pain (or perhaps labial or perineum pain is more accurate?--it's not internal) Doesn't matter if I'm using a pad or a tampon. Essentially goes away if I am lying down or even sitting. Weird! Any thoughts? This has been consistent for MANY months; No birth control (I refuse) anymore. Extra info-- Also have very heavy periods first 3-4 days with large "clots" at times, and my cycles are always long--roughly 42 days. Never thought to ask the OB/gyn when I was in b/c of course it was mid-cycle and not on my mind. Any thoughts? Thanks!

What can I do next?

Does it feel like a feeling of pressure and your pelvic bones kind of ache a little? I get this too at the beginning of my period. I don't remember if I had it after my daughter, but I definitely do after having my son. I assumed it was blood pooling and for whatever reason, having given birth makes me notice it. I notice it more when standing too and assumed it was gravity contributing to the sensation.

Great question M.!!! I have the same feeling. Pain or pressure... not fun. I don't have heavy periods but do have other severe symptoms. I'm not positive, but I think that it was something that happend before I had my son, although it may be a bit worse now.

Thanks for posting this question...I've had the same problem since having kids. I asked my doctor but she didn't really give me an answer, except to say that I'm getting older and that our bodies change as we get older. Some of the answers you received are very helpful!

I get it, too. Ever since having kids, there is about a 3-6 hour window at the begining of my period in which I feel like my perineum/vaginal area in one giant bruise and there is something pushing on it, hard. I also now have heavy bleeding, a day of severe moodiness, clots, and severe cramps, all of which I never had before kids. My gyn said it's not unusual.

Hmmmmmm.... Everything you have indicated reminds me of possible symptoms related to endometriosis - please ask your OBGYN about this...

I would consider making an appointment with your doc to address just this issue. I understand how it can slip your mind when you are there for your annual. I am in a similar situation where I refuse to use b/c anymore since my dh had a vasectomy. I, too, have always had heavy periods with extremely painful cramps (to the point where it can literally knock me on my knees), but haven't experienced the labial pain. I have an appointment next week and intend to get this taken care of -- whatever it takes! Best of luck!
