Hi Ladies
My daughter is on Medicaid...and I took her to her yearly wellness exam with a new doctor the other day, since moving to Austin.
I left the office in tears.
I was very rushed and talked down to for questioning him on vaccinations and about an issue my daughter has with her eye.
He told me that her tonsils were very large but "don't worry, it should be gone by the time she is 6"
He told me her speech was slurred, but "don't worry it should be gone by the time she is 6"
I was so in awe of the way I felt we were being treated, that I wasn't able to get the info that I wanted.
There is more...it was just a bad experience.

Does anyone have a pediatrician that you would recommend that accepts Medicaid/Amerigroup and is accepting new 4 year old patients.
That doesn't mind to sit for 10 minutes to explain what is going on with the child?

Thanks

I used to go to the clinic in Georgetown (Georgetown Health Clinic) when I was on Medicaid. It's a bit out of the way for most but the Dr.s are wonderful and will explain whatever you need discussed. I had some of those same bad experiences with Medicaid Doctors until I went to Georgetown. Good luck and feel free to tell people not to treat you that way. CB

We use Schoolhouse Pediatrics on Bee Caves - I don't know if they accept Medicaid, but here is their website so you can contact them to find out: http://www.schoolhousepediatrics.com/

We use Jennifer Cardwell, but have seen all three of the doctors and LOVE them all - they are very caring and always take time for their patients. I wish they would all treat my husband and I !!

good luck - and sorry about your bad experience! I don't know why some people become doctors with no bedside manner - especially a pediatrician!!

I remember having a terrible experience when we first got to Austin as well. I do not recommend Carousel Pediatrics. I take my children to Austin Diagnostic Clinic and we either see Dr. Beth Nauert, or her nurse practitioner Linda. They are both very nice, and we've had a good experience. However, they only take superior medicaid. Have you considered switching? I remember when I had to decide between the 2 plans and it seemed like most places didn't accept amerigroup.

Seek out Ramona Lopez or dr. Hine. They work in the same facility and I like them both. Good luck.

Tracy,

I have worked with Dr. De Wette - she works at Austin Regional on Brodie (soon moving to Slaughter/Manchaca). I am pretty sure she takes Medicaid, not positive if she takes Amerigroup Medicaid but would call and ask. Another is Dr. Manuel Torres who is on William Cannon. He and is wife (his nurse, Rosa)are lovely people.

Not sure if they are taking new patients, but Dr. Trebig takes Medicaid/Amerigroup. She is with Capital Pediatrics and this may be where you went since it is a group of physicians, but there number for central Austin is ###-###-#### or North Austin is ###-###-####.

Good Luck. I know this is very frustrating.

I am so sorry that you were treated in that manner. That is simply unacceptable, but it does not make it any easier to accept.

I, too, prefer to have a doctor that listens and takes time to explain things to me. I think all doctors feel somewhat defensive about vaccines, but not all are condescending when you question them, nor should they be so. My son sees Dr. Kibler at Capital Pediatrics and we like her and the nurses there. I don't know if they take Medicaid, or not, but their website says that they take most major insurances. You can call their billing office at ###-###-#### to find out for sure.

Blessings to you and your baby girl. May you find someone who truly cares about you and your child.

Austin Regional Clinic - They have Dr.s offices all over town. They have always been great to work with.
We don't have Medicaid but I know they accept it.
We see Dr. Ward at one of the South locations.
But I have been to their after hours care on Far West too and they were good as well. That is one great thing they always have someone to talk to and they have weekend appointments. Best of luck Momma!

I've had good experiences with the ARC dr.'s in Round Rock, I haven't noticed if they take medicaid. Dr. White is nice though a bit quiet, and doesn't look down on us for asking questions.
I feel like I can go to the dr, tell him what I've done so far about each concern, and he will give me advice on what to do next.
In the past, when I've had a dr. I didn't trust, my strategy was to bring someone else with me. They might run over me- but not my husband or mother.
For the speech issue, have you had your daughter tested by the schools? They will do this starting at age 3 and provide free therapy to help kids prepare for kindergarten and be able to communicate with the teachers.

My advice is which ever dr. you choose, let them know when you schedule that you have several concerns, take a written list of questions, have in mind what you want(like a referral to an ear/nose/throat or eye specialist), take a friend with you, and take notes. You know your child the best and would do anything to keep her safe, and they should not just dismiss your concerns.
