I would definitely get OUT of that Cook's network. From what I have experienced, their doctors do not seem to have the freedom to make decisions that are best for their patients if they don't fit inside the Cook's "box."
I think if my Cook's pediatrician had sent my 8 yr old son to Dallas Children's Medical Center when his liver started to fail, rather than sending us to Cook's, which unlike Dallas, has NO liver specialist, NO transplant team and NO entire floor devoted to liver, he might be alive today. Instead, they sent us to the hospital in their network to give it the old "college try", with the intention of transferring him to Dallas if things got worse. That decision proved to be fatal. As trusting parents, we went along with their recommendation; however, with my remaining son I do my own research and have switched to a pediatrician who does the same.
Our doctor now is Dr. Michael McCoy in Grapevine. It sounds like you're looking for someone closer to Fort Worth but maybe he could give you a recommendation.
You are your child's advocate. Don't let anyone talk you out of listening to your instincts and mother's intuition.
Blessings,
M.
