Yesterday I gave cooked peas to my 9/12 month old son for the 1st time and he loved them. However, he just had a poopy diaper and I saw some whole peas in his poop!! Is that normal??

What can I do next?

Great roughage for his system! Yes, you are correct. The peas don't wholly digest in his system. I find that sometimes is the case in my much older system as well. Corn never fully digests for me, and often other vegetables will be the same way. As long as they aren't making him ill, there isn't a problem.

We digest the inside but not the outside lining. Same with corn.

Yes it is perfectly normal-you may even see that when they are 2!!!! Thats just the case with some foods-carrots, corn, apple skin, grape skin etc

Obviously he loves them so much he isn't chewing them but scarfing them down.

peas, corn, carrots I think were the repeat offenders ... sometimes even mandarin oranges ... I typically kept them to a minimum or mashed for as long as possible.

Yep...he isn't going to be especially good at chewing/gumming things for a while and the skins are generally less digestible. You have a couple of years of finding interesting objects and colors in poop.

Lol. I just asked a similar question... a lot of the foods I give my DD still don't digest all the way... She's one year old now.

It's normal if he's not chewing the peas. :-)

Same thing happens with corn still. It is just that the shells are harder for the tummy to digest.

Peas, corn. Any veggie that has a thick shell, that you still can eat.

yep its normal. Same with corn, other veggies and even some fruits with pulp thats tougher to digest such as pineapple.

Normal. Wait until he starts eating corn, olives, bananas (makes poop look almost gritty, like coffee grinds), oranges (the pulp comes out the way it went in)... fun times ;)
