M.E.
A girl a work with has PCOS and they put her on insulin. she was pregnant in a few month.
I had to use Clomid for 5 months to get pregnant the first time, which is NOTHING compared to some women's battles, and I just wanted to know if anyone on here with PCOS did not have to use it or some fertility treatment to get pregnant a second, third, etc. time? I guess what I am tying to ask is is it always charts, temps, scheduled sex, ovulation monitors, pills, ultrasounds, pills to make u have a period because u don't have one on your own, and negative pregnancy tests month after month? And has anyone with PCOS and hypothyroidism had success losing weight and HOW?

You know i was told there was no hope. I didn't get periods. I got my period when i was like 11. I got periods for about a year on schedule. then every once and a great while i would get one from then on. Me and my husband tried for ages to get preggers. I think 6 years. We were finally told there was no hope. Guess what i went to the dr cause i had the flu for like 3 months. They found out i had been preggers all that time. They never checked me for that cause they had already decided it wasn't possible. So after i had my son they put me on birth control. I got preggers again in July of the following year on birth control. Again i was almost 5 months along before i knew cause they didn't think it was possible again. They determined the birth control didn't work for me. I can lose weight with alot of work. I have to diet, and excercise till i puke! LOL! Then i lose weight. But i am still full figured. Just not obese and very muscular. LOL! Now If i could find a solution to the hair that would be nice. But yes you can get preggers when you have PCOS. I have it severe and I got preggers twice, even after i was told that there was no hope!
Hey K.! You are not alone! I have got preg. once on birth control (Surprize!) and the 2nd time we tried 2yrs. my last cycle of Clomid Dr. said I didn't ovulate I would have to give up and try a more expensive route, well come to find out I didn't ovulate because... I was already pregnant. He is now 2 1/2 happy and healthy little boy! Be strong and go with you gut, if it feels wrong, don't do it! I would love another one it just exhausts me to think of going thru the hormones again to get there,I was not very nice somedays while on hormones:)
As far as weight goes, if you find something out let me know! I have gave up caffine totally and that has helped a little and for awhile I took glucophage(sp?) and that took a couple of pounds off, but it is a constant struggle. I don't know if you have the hair growth or not but I am trying a med. called aldacton it is supposed to make the hair thinner and more sparse, I don't know if it will work or not still going thru that. Good luck sweetie! Keep us posted.
I have gotten pregnant 3 times with PCOS. I dont ovulate regular so it was hard to determine when the best time to have sex was. With my last baby, who is 8 weeks old, we were trying to prevent pregnancy, her due date is 1 week and 2 days off what it actually should have been!! It takes a lot of patients on both yours and your husband's part. I advice is to not try too hard, or it wont happen. When we tried really hard it took us 5 yrs for it to happen, it took me giving up to get pregnant with #2. We werent even trying for #3 when she was born. Good luck!
Hi, K.. I don't mean to minimize any of your struggles - both your posts make it clear you've been through the wringer! - but have you considered adoption? I know, I'm saying this from my own veiwpoint as an adoptive mom, but it is an alternative to consider. Adoption has its drawbacks - paperwork, an unpredictable wait that probably feels a lot like infertility, and even adoptive moms get PPD (due to the tremendous life change). But if your goal is to build your family rather than just get pregnant, this might be a way to do it without the medical side-effects that could damage your current family.
I know that adoption isn't for everyone. I just want to put the bug in your ear in case it might be right for you. Take care! -di
K., I have PCOS and it took us 10 years to get pregnant with our second baby, who is now 9 months old. It took a meticulous diet for the month pre-conception which eliminated any refined sugars and limited my carbohydrate intake to below 60 for each meal and below 30 for two snacks daily. I also needed to eliminate all caffiene (believe me, that was HARD! lol) and begin an exercise regimen of half-an-hour daily activity. The final piece of the puzzle for us was the addition of Femara, which Dr Shockley prescribed, saying it was often helpful for those who couldn't get pregnant with Clomid. Oh, and every-other-day noogie. It gets to feel like a chore, and that's no fun, but we didn't bother with a calendar or checking temps/mucous. Dr S said that most women who don't ovulate regularly will have ambigouous signs of ovulation. HTH, good luck!
I also have PCOS...and i was told i'd have to use fetility pills to conceive. But I did give birth on 12/12/03 before i knew i had PCOS...I got pregnant w/ her without even trying..now on the other hand we are taking the "risk". The dr. put me on a high dose b/c to regulate my periods in hopes of it Triggering me into ovulating. I hope this helps.
