If I have to ask I really already know the answer. :-( We decided to cancel and instead focus on the trip we are taking at the end of June. Unfortunately even quick weekend trips seem to cost around $1k! Its crazy... :-)

Thanks though

What can I do next?

We always vacation only on cash. However, if you have to put some on credit but know you can pay it back within the month, I say go for it!

Enjoy your get away!

Congratulations on the new job. I hope it works out well for you.

As for the vacation, how disciplined are you? We don't do things if we can't pay. We do use 1 credit card and it is paid in full plus more each month because that is how we are. We run our own company and all expenses are run through this card and reimbursed weekly with detailed expense reports. Debt is not your friend.

If I had concern about paying back, I might lead toward not going. Why? because you don't know what you don't know. You are counting on paying it back with the next check but what if something pops up, etc. (car breaks down, etc) This is typically how someone gets started on the fast downward spiral of spending out of control.

Delayed gratification is the way to go and stay out of debt.

All that said... I don't know you, I don't know how disciplined you are regarding financial decisions. I can't answer you are far as being financially irresponsible on this decision because I don't know what other debt and expenses you have that the $400 needs to go toward instead of a vacation.

If you are 100% sure it will be paid in FULL then go for it but if not, I'd wait a while.

Happy Mother's Day too!

Personally, I wouldn't enjoy myself if I didn't have the cash to pay up front. My idea of celebrating is taking myself and my boys out for ice cream.

I don't think it's terrible to do something and plan to pay it off at the end of the month. But the fact that you are asking here makes me think you feel a little uneasy, too. Perhaps you would enjoy your celebration more by waiting a couple months when you are settled into your new job and can pay for the trip comfortably with money already in the bank.
