Pain - May Be Ovarian Cyst

Hi moms.
I've been having cramping type pain for several months now, especially while ovulating, on my left side. Periods are normal and don't seem to have any other problems. I had an ultrasound done last week and it seems like I have a cyst on left ovary. I haven't talked to my doctor yet about the results but will this week. Has anyone gone thru this?

What can I do next?

I have ovarian cysts and am in extreme pain while ovulating every month. I am almost bedridden in those 24 hours. The only good part of it is that I know when it's "time" to try to get pregnant or to steer clear! I'm pregnant with my 4th and each time I know exactly when we made it happen. There has been no talk of taking them out, it's just something that I have to deal with monthly. After this 4th (and last) baby, I may ask to explore options other than pain medicine since it really is a pain (literally)!!

Hi P.,
I use to struggle with all kinds of those problems for a lot of years. Cysts, while painful, there are several different things they can do. Some Dr's try a birth-control pill to see if that will shrink them. This is the easiest thing I have found. You really need to decide how much you want to go thru as for pain and how bad it really is. Mine was so bad the hospitals had me listed as a possible drug seeker (Pian shots) until they did the ultrasound and found out I wasn't lying that I had cysts. I'm sure there are other medications out there now since I haven't had them in 6 yrs. If it is something that you need to have taken care of they can ususally do a "peek-a-boo" surgery it's out-patient and really isn't too bad. Talk with your dr and make sure you get the right option for YOU!! And good luck!

I struggle with this. It is easily treatable unless it is such a large one that it needs to be surgically removed. I will cross my fingers for you that it is something they can just give you Metformin/Glucophage to dissolve.

Good luck,
A.

Hi P.,

A lot depends on the size and location of the cyst. I've had them on and off for years. If it's small, they'll probably watch and see if it grows/changes or if it goes away all together, which happens. I never had anything more done for cysts than watching them.

I did eventually have a non cancerous tumor that was on one of my ovaries and I had it removed.

Regardless, you will feel better once you visit your ob andknow for sure what the plan is. I'm a very active and healthy woman in my early 40's...even after the tumor was removed.

Keep good thoughts and relax until you get the plan of action. Don't forget to post what happenes.
