So I went to the doctor and she did an internal ultrasound and the baby is where he/she is supposed to be and doing great I might add. When she checked my ovary on the right side she found there was a cyst on it. She said it wasn't that big and nothing to worry about but I'd like to know how many of you have experienced this and gone on to have normal, happy, healthy pregnancies. Also did your's hurt a lot and if so for how long??? I'm at a loss for what to do about the pain. I just thank God that it wasn't an Eptopic pregnancy. Any experiences, stories, and ways to lessen the pain would be greatly appreciated:) Thanks ladies!!

Yeah, I have a cyst in my uterus...it caused some cramping, but was basically a non-issue. The only scary part came when they couldn't hear the baby because she was being hidden by the cyst (if I remember correctly). But then they did an ultrasound and she was there, perfect as can be. Anyway, all my pregnancies were textbook and the kids are fine (well, they have issues, but not caused by the cyst). So I wouldn't worry too much if your doc thinks it's fine.

J.,

I suffer from ovarian cysts whenever I'm not taking birth control. When we wanted to get pregnant, I, of course, went off the pill and developed a cyst. It did not cause me as much pain as you are experiencing. One night, however, I woke up in major pain. I could not have been too far along in my pregnancy because the doctor did an internal ultrasound. I sat up in bed and was massaging my belly (which really does not help anything) when the pain got so bad, I passed out cold and fell off the bed! This completely freaked out my husband. We had an ultrasound done and everything was good with baby (who is now nine-years-old and healthy as can be). The cyst had burst and it had been rather big, so it hurt when it burst. The doctor assured me over and over that a cyst will not hurt the baby, even when it bursts like it did. After it burst, my body absorbed it and the pain went away. I tell you this story in case your cyst does burst. It hurt really badly, but did not affect the baby at all. I'm sorry I can't be more helpful when it comes to what to do about the pain you are experiencing now. Please just be assured that your baby is doing well and is in good hands. See Psalms 139:13-17

I have never had one while pregnant, but the ones that I have had have been painful enough, I can't imagine how pregnancy would add to that.
I would find that changing pasitions would often help alleviate some of the pain. You might try taking baths, at least that would take some of the baby weight away.
Eventually you will feel such an amazing pain (when it ruptures), I ended up going to the ER for an ultrasound because I did not know yet that I had a cyst. When the fluid from the cyst enters your body it will be a foreign object. You will feel discomfort for a few days until the fluid is absorbed into your body. It will pass and you will be fine. There is no indication that a cyst will affect your pregnancy. The fetus is well protected by the uterus and placenta, "she" wont even notice that she has a roommate.
And as for pain, I never take anything when I am pregnant. I just don't want my babies to have drugs in them. But if you need something, you can take regular strength Tylenol, that is said to be safe in pregnancy.

Good luck, and don't worry. Everything shall be fine, and "this too shall pass."

I agree with other posts that cysts are usually not a big deal, an the pain usually will resolve, or at least come and go with relief in between. I did have some complications from a cyst, which is not a real common things, but I thought I'd tell you about it - because it all worked out fine in the end! In highschool, I had an ovarian cyst that caused one of my fallopian tubes to twist on itself and die. I ended up having to have one of my tubes removed. But I have had no further problems with cysts, and have been pregnant four times! So obviously the cyst and having only one tube hasn't effected anything! Again, this isn't a real common thing - but just thought I'd let you know that even some of the possible complications can be resolved with no long term effects. Good luck on number 2! And hope you're feeling better soon!

I have suffered with cysts since my second pregnancy.Over the years it has been painful off and on and finally this past June the pain started again and in August I had surgery to remove my right ovary and tube. I am finished having children, but I have friends who have concieved with only one ovary. Mine did not really function due to the scar tissue and enlargement on it. Having the surgery was the best thing I did. But with the previous ones, the pain would only last a week or so and would go away when it ruptured. Having cycts are common during pregnancy and will resolve on its own. My pain only lasted about a month with the corpus lutem cyst. If you have any questions always call your doctor and he can alleviate any fears that you have. My case was an extreme one but there are options to treat cysts and they range from birth control after you deliver, but it may resolve before then.

Ovarian cysts are very common. You SHOULD be just fine. Of course, you'll keep and eye on it but there is little need for worry. Take it easy and listen to your body.

I had cysts off and on through each of my pregnancies. The doctor said that it is not uncommon. All 3 pregnancies went very well - my third was actually even born on his due date! lol.
Keep in touch with your doctor, especially if the pain gets worse. But also don't worry about it, because the stress isn't good for your baby.
Congrats on you soon-to-be new addition!

Yup been there done that.
Mine hurt the whole pregnancy, but I did find that heat helped the pain.
Had a heating pad stuck to my belly constantly it seemed.
My baby was 9lbs 8oz, so yes, I had a very healthy boy.
Good luck dear and don't fret over this, if it were an issue, your doctor would have told you so.

I had one and it hurt through out my second pregnancy. I had a healthy baby girl. Ask the Dr. if you can use a heating pad, I can't remember but know it helps when I get them now. Yes I never got them before I was pregnant and I now get them, not fun.

I had cysts on my ovaries with both pregnancies and usually if the doctor says its nothing to worry about it isnt. They will monitor the size of it and if it becomes unusually painful in that area, I'd bring it up to the doc. Otherwise, cysts on your ovaries seem to be pretty normal during pregnancy although I'd love for a doctor to explain what their purpose is. ha ha Have a great pregnancy and a wonderful life with your new little one.

J., My first pregnancy was like that...a cyst on the ovary. When my son (who was born just wonderfully perfect!), was about 2 1/2 yrs old, I had surgery to remove the overy, as the cyst had grown. I was able to get pregnant and deliver another healthy son 9 months later! I eventually had to have a hysterectomy because of other complications, not relating to the cyst. You were right to be concerned. Hope all goes well. Oh, all this happened in 1970 and 1973. Just think how far medicine and health procedures have advanced since then!

Hi J.,
I had several cysts during my pregnancy, one that was pretty large. As my pregnancy progressed, the cysts got smaller and so did the pain level. By the time I delivered, they were almost gone completely. They didn't cause any problems and everyone was happy and healthy during and after the pregnancy/delivery. Good luck, I hope it mellows out for you a little!
