B.B.
Its amazing what people get all worked up over isn't it?
I agree with you, it IS funny. I haven't seen that skit in years....YouTube?
When did we lose our sense of humor cease as moms? The above mentioned group has a site to protest a new flavor of ice cream based on one of the funniest SNL skits. Personally, I went to the site, and entered an anti-protest, pro-Schweddy Balls email. Sure, we can all put our efforts into something more serious, but moms - my daughter is five, and I plan on buying it -amusement for me, and, hey, a rare treat. If you find this offensive, tell me why? To me, it's just plain funny (and nostalgic, since it is what, a 15 year old skit?). Would you visit the site to non-protest?
You all are great! What I did was click on their link, EDIT the subject to PRO SCHWEDDY BALLS - and told them that as a mom and NON member, I think their idea is hysterical, and if they continue to sell it, I must buy a pint for myself and my MIL (she really does want one). I told them thank you for their products! I just manipulated their ''standard" email to express my own views :).
I didn't know it was in the stores yet! I wish I could post a pic on here once I see it!

1. This is a conservative site? What the hell am I doing here?
2. This from Kari: "Clearly people here on this site haven't lost their sense of humor and honestly I don't think the members of the "American Family Association" ever had one." made me almost fall outta my chair. I laughed so hard the kids heard me from the basement to the second floor! Thank you for that!
I have three boys and a girl, and we all have a bizarre sense of humor. I need to buy this ice cream for them.
No way! Ben and Jerry's made an ice cream after that skit?
I made up my own dessert after that skit!
I am totally planning on buying it. I love Ben & Jerrys!
No, I don't care enough either way. Now if it was d!ck in a box, THAT would get my vote!
But I do hate they are wasting valuable time and money protesting something so innocuos when there are real issues to work on. How about one million moms against cutting funding for the arts in public schools. One million moms against the ridiculous Eurocentric historybooks our kids are assigned. One million moms against the hpv virus. One million moms against hunger.
Damn, I'm suddenly craving ice cream
OMG I totally forgot that was Alec Baldwin until I just re-watched it!!!! I second Tracy's vote for D!ck in a box flavor!
They also want to cancel the "The Playboy Club" TV show saying that it's not for children.
REALLY? not for kids? I was planning on having a group of 4 year olds over each week to watch The Playboy Club and eat some schweddy balls ice cream. It's on at 10pm est / 9 pm cst - but they can just go to school late the next day right? School's not that important anyway.
Newsflash..... If you don't want your kids to watch something..... THEN CHANGE THE CHANNEL. If you don't want your kids to see the schweddy balls container.... THEN THROW AWAY THE CARTON BEFORE YOU GET HOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok - how do I anti-protest? I only see the link to protest. If I click on it, will it count me as one of the mom's with no sense of humor?
I completely agree... I'm so sick of people getting all ruffled about the stupidest things. I don't have the time or energy to waste on this, apple juice, or Sponge Bob. I personally like them all...
I am waiting for the Betty White Delicious Dish Muffins..
I weep with laughter when I watch these different skits.
Ben and Jerry's has always been great about serving popular culture,.

Clearly people here on this site haven't lost their sense of humor and honestly I don't think the members of the "American Family Association" ever had one.
Ironically now that they've drawn so much attention to it there will not be a soul in the USA who hasn't seen the original skit and judging from the responses hear Schweddy Balls ice cream will be in great demand.
I'll waste one more minute today and head over to their site. Messing with these people will me almost as much fun as watching the original skit for the hundredth time!
I'm more shocked that it's been 15 years since that skit aired. Anyway, I think kids are exposed to far worse watching TV. Even if you choose tame shows the ads for other shows, movies and products are worse than this.
must find the ice cream not to mention the interesting name it looks like it will taste good
I'm a conservative (supposedly this group is, which is why I bring it up) and I think it's hilarious. My husband has been trying to find it at various grocery stores, but we are unable to find it. We have two kids and though I won't go in depth about the meaning of Schweddy Balls, we'd allow it in our home -- if we could find it! :)
To me, there are somethings that do not need to be totally explained to kids... they'll get it sooner or later :)
I heard this yesterday and let out a giant LAUGH....
Cause then I went to the mall to help my house mate buy a suit..and saw the flavor in person...
REALLY ARE WE THAT WORRIED ABOUT OUR KIDS ASKING FOR A BOWL OF SWEATY BALLS CAUSE THAT IS WHAT THE NAME IS GETTING AT... BUT ONLY CAUSE IT IS FUNNY
i WOULD BUY ALL OF THE SHWEDDY BALLS FLAVORED STUFF I COULD FIND....BECAUSE I THINK US NOT BEING ABLE TO LAUGH AT THIS IS JUST NUTS!
I SERIOUSLY typed up a whole question about this yesterday and lost internet and just gave up! Seriously I went straight to the store yesterday to look for some "Schweddy Balls" LMAO.. it sounds delish and def NOT a kids flavor anyway.. rum flavored ice cream, hello?! I am seriously going to non-protest! If you don't agree with the flavor don't buy it.. I seriously can't see this organization boycotting the sale of flavored lube at walmart because it makes them uncomfortable and their kids may see it, can you? This is insane and people need to freakin' lighten up already. There's way more legit things you can boycott, Schweddy Balls ice cream seems like a waste of their time.
They should vote with their wallets and not buy it. I think their energies should be directed at more pressing issues.
Think of it this way as far as sense of humor is concerned: Not everypne has O. to lose! LOL
Like the line from when Harry met Sally: Everybody thinks they have good taste and a sense of humor but they couldn't possibly all have good taste.
With so many things out there more serious to be upset about it's ridicoulous to get in uproar about the name of a flavor of ice cream. If you don't like something about the product (as long as it's not harmful) then don't buy it. People need to get over it. Stop stressing over the small stuff. :)
I don't know if I'll like the flavor, cause I'm not a fan of rum, but I'm going to buy it just to support Ben and Jerry's and to piss off those weenies. TOO funny! I've never seen the skit - I'm going to google it now :) And I think I'll counter protest e-mail too. I already e-mailed Ben/Jerry to support them.
Am I an evil mom if I let my kid have some - on purpose! ?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=THLL11e7Sgo&feature=re... - here's a little news flash with a pic of the carton and a clip from the skit. Enjoy those shweddy balls ladies!
Oh - and here's the skit - audio only with video still clips - OH. MY. GOODNESS: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g8GfAjj7pPo&NR=1
I think its hilarious! The SNL skit with Alec Baldwin is priceless. I think people protesting this need to get a hobby AND a sense of humor!
It is funny! I will buy it!
That group is ridiculous!
When I first saw it on FB a few weeks ago I LMAO! That is one funny skit! How they do it so straight-faced amazes me! I love Ben & Jerry's ice cream (rarely eat it now) but am not a rum fan so would never buy it due to flavor preference...but the idea of it...HILARIOUS!!!
BRAVO!!
B & J are just capitalizing on the continual slide into society's crudeness. I don't necessarily ascribe to boycotts, but I am repulsed by deliberate crassness. I remember when people weren't like this, so I am able to compare "how it was" to "how it is."
I am a right wing conservative nut and this bothers me. There are certain things that are down right ridiculous and this is one of them. Onemillionmoms.com, onemilliondads.com and the AFA are not above anyone else and cannot tell people what they can and cannot buy, watch, read and so on. There are rights provided for in our constitution and bill of rights that they can't stomp on. They are essentially blackmailing these companies. I know that I have my morals and standards but I am not going to shove my views down someone else's throat. I am definitely pro Schweddy Balls and am offended that they are acting like communists.
Hilarious! I hijacked their letter writing website to send Ben and Jerry's a supportive email. :)
I just hijacked the email on the One Million Moms website too. Thanks for sharing this info! I wonder how long it's going to take them to realize that some are using their site to support Ben & Jerry's. I love the idea of Dick In A Box and Betty White Muffin ice cream too. Hysterical!!!
Maybe...I do think it's silly to get worked up about it! It's FUNNY! Those people need to laugh more apparently, and have a drink! =)
Too funny! Everyone is entitled to their opinion, though. From their website:
"Ben & Jerry's announced their newest ice cream flavor which sounds anything but appealing. Schweddy Balls is the best they could come up with. The vulgar new flavor has turned something as innocent as ice cream into something repulsive. Not exactly what you want a child asking for at the supermarket."
I'd just like to point out that if their child is asking for rum ice cream at the supermarket, they have much larger problems looming than the name of an ice cream flavor! Perhaps this is the form their denial takes, focusing on a less important "crisis"....
I love Ben and Jerry's but was not thrilled with the "Cluster Fluff" name. Didn't stop me from loving the ice cream!
btw - check Ben & Jerry's website for a pic of the package - it was there last week when I checked to see if it really was a new flavor. :-)
