I'm not quite ready to potty train my son yet, but I've been reading about different methods and trying to decide what book I might want to get to help us out. Has anyone tried the ebook on ohcrappottytraining.com? Or do you have other suggestions for a good method to get it done in a few days? He is in daycare and I'd like to take a few days to get him mostly trained at home and hopefully transition to being trained there relatively quickly as well. Thanks!

What can I do next?

Try the Lora Jenson ebook "3 day potty training method"
http://www.3daypottytraining.com/

I do home childcare and had a parent approach me last year with this for her then 28 mos old son who had never ever gone potty in a seat or toilet before. We decided to go for it..she was willing and I was willing to support the outcome of thier long weekend. She said it was like boot camp and she waged the war!

You toss ALL diapers or Pull ups (I hate those things)...so no crutches! You have meals ready, casseroles or frozen pizzas and waffles, etc. No errands to do or yardwork or big house cleaning. You stay a few feet from your child for the 3 days (some have needed 4). You DO NOT make your child sit on the toilet at timed intervals and you never ask them to go, but instead, remind them to tell you when they need to go..subtle difference. They learn to listen to their body, rather than a parent forcing them to go sit on the potty. Also, keep that potty seat in the bathroom! Where in the world can you go potty in a livingroom out in the real world???

In the last year I have had 5 children train this way over a 3-4 day weekend and I continue it here at my home childcare. Most have gone back to diapers or pull ups at night only, but I use none for naps, etc. Some accidents happen, but very few really. My youngest was 22 mos, the oldest 29 mos. I have one who turned 2 yesterday and his parents did this method over the last weekend (it was a 4 day weekend as I was closed for 2 days)...and hes in undies and has had one accident (a poo) in the last 3 days, including naps of 2-3 hours each day.

I refuse to have children any older than 30 mos not trained or attempting it here any longer when there are alternatives. Most of these kids had never gone in potty before and I try not to use a small seat any longer than needed and use the full size toilet. I need to help with pants and hand washing, but to me this is way better than all those diapers on big kids!

You can do it!!!

While it's still nice out you could try the "Naked and 75 dollars" LOL Keep him naked from the waist down for several days, be plastered by his side, and take the potty EVERYWHERE with you (each room, inside, outside, etc) The $75 is to get the carpet cleaned when you're done! :-)

Well nothing ws working for me, when I decided " we have to do this now!" But then all of a sudden my son was ready on his own, we didn't use a book, we talked about it a lot! He saw the pull up toy story training pants, which we only use for naps and bedtime. But he was soooo excited and virtually learned overnight from JEllyBEANS! I thought, not me... Give my kid candy!! But it worked, 1 for pee 2 for poop! Lol I had a ton left over from easter so that's what we used:)he doesn't get them anymore but he is still so proud of himself going on the big potty:)

Hi, S.:

The book, "To Listen to a Child", by T. Berry Brazelton, M.D. (used)

Might be a good place to start.
Good Luck. D.

We just got my 2 1/2 yo son trained in a week. We learned our lessons with my daughter who took FOREVER. First and foremost-no pull-ups, etc. If they don't mess up the real underwear (which they hate to do) they just dont' care. Allow yourself a few days or week (it took me forever to get around to it for this reason) where you have time to go to the bathroom with him all day. A weekend is good if he's in daycare because the first couple of days is when it clicks most, and you can continue as you're able, or the next weekend, etc. Feed him plenty of liquids and stool softening foods, so there aren't struggles in addition to the new routine. Put on the REAL UNDERWEAR and you're off to the races. Take him every 20 minutes or so, especially 20 minutes after drinking. Don't sit and wait too long when nothing is happening. Keep up beat, but be firm when you see he has to go and wants to jump up and run. I had to sort of hold both of mine down with hugs while they cried for the first poops. Have treats standing by. Never scold for accidents, but remind him he needs to go in the potty and treats are for after pee and poop goes in the potty. My son likes m&ms and pez out of a race car dispenser. It's only been a week, and I keep in him diapers at night and for errands, but he's even started asking to go in real potties when we're out and he has a diaper on. Phew! Good luck!
