Hi, Just:
So why do you need the ablation? What is your diagnosis?
What kind of procedure is a NovaSure?
How come a NP was the one suggesting the treatment.
Just wondering!

So I had my annual GYN visit today and the nurse practitioner said I need to have either a D&C or NovaSure. I'm 40+ years old and already know I cannot have children (we've been through a ton of fertility treatments, including IUI and IVF). We know adoption is our family building way and are in our local foster-adopt program. So, given the choice, DH and I are leaning towards NovaSure, which we'll discuss in depth with the doctor at the end of the month. Any insight, stories, suggestions to talk with the doctor about, or other things I'm not thinking of from the wealth of womanhood here on Mamapedia? Please let me know. Thanks!
@Donna ... I see a nurse practitioner for all my GYN needs, 'cause I love her and she's amazing! I have a pretty big hormonal imbalance ... Lucky me, I'm getting migraines and instead of 1 weekish of a period, I only have about a week off FOR THE WHOLE MONTH! So, she said the uterine lining is too thick, which can lead to uterine cancer ... Thus the need for D&C or the ablation. D&C would likely need to be repeated in 2-3 years, whereas the ablation is permanent. NovaSure is a type of ablation (not us if there are others, but I trust my nurse practitioner and her recommendations). HTH!

I had an ablation using Novasure to stop periods from hell (every two weeks instead of every four, flooding through my clothes every hour, cramps that doubled me over and hurt so bad they made me puke), and my only regret is that I didn't do it sooner.
While I am not as familiar with D & C, two of my coworkers had the ablation procedure and swear by the results that they have had...period free; Can't beat that. They did not have significant side effects, although one mentioned she would have light discharge more than previously so she just made sure to wear a panty liner daily. I know that doesn't provide a ton of insight but I know they were pleased with the outcomes. Good luck with it all!
I had a D and C when I miscarried. I don't know why you'd have one when under these circumstances. I did have an ablation 3 years ago and it was the best decision ever. I haven't had a period (not even spotting) since. Not even any cramping! There are two kinds of ablations. One that uses heat and one that freezes. I think the heat one (which I believe is the novasure) seems to be more successful, but I think it can partly depend on the experience of the dr. performing it. Mine had been doing them for a very long time so his patients usually had really good results.
I will soon be 42 and I had an ablation done in 2010, I no longer have periods and it is great. My OB/GYN used the boiling bag of saline water. I have been having hormone problems (as in low sex drive sorry if that’s TMI) and I am not sure if it has anything to do with that procedure.
I am not familiar with Nova Sure. Is it some kind of hormone treatment?
A D & C is different from an ablation. You can still have children after a D & C that is what they do for abortions and miscarriages.
By your own admission your hormones are not as they should be. If I were you, I would contact the Pope Paul the VI Institute. In fact I have been to see Doctors trained by him because it was such a long distance to attempt to go to his Institute. He is on the cutting edge for hormonal issues.
