Tubes Tied & Ablation Experiences?

Hello Ladies,
After our second is born in May, we're planning to have my tubes tied during the c-section. About 3 months after that, I'm thinking of having an ablation done (removing the lining of my uterus with a laser). The procedure is called Nova Sure. Anyway, I was wondering if any of the Mamas out there had any words of wisdom about either or both of the procedures.

Just to clarify:
-We know we don't want to have any more kiddos
-I would really like to do away with my periods, but a lighter one would do, too
-I need to get off the Pill because of my high blood pressure

Thanks so much for your advice...you've never let me down! :-)

What can I do next?

Albation was one of the smartest things I've ever done. One day of recovery is all it took for me. You'll usually see a little spotting for the first 2 or 3 months but I haven't had any spotting in about 9 months, I mean nothing. It's so awesome!!!!!! I used to be scared when we went on vacation not knowing if I was going to start or not but now I'm worry free. Love it love it love! I give it an A+++++

I had a Nova Sure Ablasion in March. I am extremely happy with the results. I can't be on the pill and I had very heavy bleeding. A box of 36 tampons for a 24 hour period got to be ridiculous. I have not had a period since. I'm excited to not have to deal with birth control (although my husband had the BIG V as well) . I will say that I still have ovulation pain, but it beats the period - it really does.

Hi K.,
I had my tubes tied and would do it again. My stomach was kind of sore for a couple of days. It felt like I had done about 2000 sit ups. Other than that I had no adverse effects or reactions. I didn't have the ablation done so I can't tell you about that. Good luck!!

I had my tubes tied after my last baby for birth control purposes. After about 6 years I began having periods that lasted a week or longer and where very heavy. I put up with that for about a year, after consulting my doctor we decided that an ablation was the way to go. In 90% of the women, this stops the period. I was the 10% that kept a period but it only lasted 3 days and was light. It took about 2 years before my periods stopped. I haven't had any problems with either procedure. The only negative my doctor gave was that dedecting cancer in the uterus would be very difficult after the ablation so I would not recommend unless your periods where affecting your health in other ways like anemia.

I don't have any experience w/the Nova Sure, but I am having my tubes tied too (setting up appt. next week--so probably a month or two from now)after 3 kids. I just want to say GOOD LUCK with your delivery and the procedures. Let us know how it goes. Sorry I have no info for you!! :) C.

I did the exact same 7 years ago - c-section, tubal ligation & ablation. It has been the best thing ever!!! You will be very pleased.
Good luck!

I had my tubes tied 6 years ago when my 3rd child was born via c/s. My periods from that point forward became heavier and heavier - I was told that was normal after a tubal ligation - but that was not a reassurance - bcp are not an option for me - I get headaches and high blood pressure from them. I am currently scheduled for the novasure next week. I have had all the testing done already. I am not expecting no periods (that would be awesome though) but hopeful for much lighter, shorter ones.

Good luck.

I have had both and I am so happy. I had my tubes tied about 4 years ago and I had the Nova Sure done in May 2007. I have not had any problems and best of all I have not had a cycle since May 2007. It's one of the best things I have done. Good luck!!

I had the Nova Sure done about six months ago. Super easy procedure in my docs office that lasted maybe 10 minutes. Not painful at all and I no longer have periods. I use the Nuva Ring for BC still, don't want to do a tubal. Good luck!

I had my tubes tied this past year but mine was due to Breast Cancer treatment, I was no longer able to take birth control because of the hormones. With that said I love it. I have had no problems at all. You will have the pain of a c-section so you wont even notice anything about the tubal. It is so nice not to have to remember to take that darn pill everyday. You will have a sense of freedom!!! I am not familiar with the Ablation procedure.

I had my tubes tied - I had myself convinced that I was cramping worse afterwards, etc - but now, three years later - I get almost no period warning and only bleed for a week or two, instead of the three and four week - or longer - periods I've had since teenage years.

Good luck
