I'm trying to handle being a new mom of a full term baby that has had to spend the first month of his life in the NICU. Are there support groups in my area?

Sometimes the hospitals have support groups. I went to a breastfeeding support group when I first had my son (Oct. 08). I would also look into meetup.com for moms groups. There are a ton of groups and sure to be one to fit your situation. This can be a lonely time and its important for you all to get the love and support you need to get through it. However, Enjoy this special time and know that it will get easier :)
Raising Special Kids (which is located in Phoenix, but out reaches to the whole state) I understand has a NICU support program. They also do some parent to parent matching.
Their website is RaisingSpecialKids.org
Hi A.,
I am sorry that I don't know of any support groups, but I just wanted to let you know that you can email me if you want. Our first child, now 2 1/2, was born at 37 weeks (full term)and spent the first month of his life in the NICU as well. He was a good size, but he had Persistent Pulmonary Hypertension in Newborns (PPHN) and was on a ventilator. Most information and support out there for mom's of babies in the NICU is for preemies (which is wonderful), but sometimes our little ones have a whole other set of scary issues. I had a very difficult time dealing with how very sick my baby was, and it wasn't all that easy when we got home, either. We had to keep him at home for the first six months of his life. I would love to give you any support from my experience. Feel free to email me at ____@____.com in there,
L.
