New Room for the Girls... What Should I Ensure Is in It?

I have a 3.5 and 6 mo old girl and I need to have them share a room. The 3.5 yo is happy about it which is a great thing. It's a decent size room where I'll be able to comfortably place a twin bed, a crib and a couple of dressers in it. I'd like a girlie rug to go in the middle, but what else? Love to hear your ideas and if you have suggestions for where to buy, please add them. Please know my 3.5 yo loves princesses, but i'm leaning towards a garden theme like she has now and likes.

Thanks in advance for the creative ideas!

So What Happened?

Thanks to everyone that responded! I ended up going with pale pink as the overall color for the rug, curtains, bedskirts and lampshades. For something new I got the embroidered seat from LandofNod.com and a new quilt for my eldest daughter. I painted a tree on a wall so I can post family pictures. To give it a pseudo princess feel I painted a tiara on the mirror, over my eldest daughter's name and created a growth chart with a castle at the top. To make it fun I painted the inside of the doors a raspberry pink which is chalkboard paint. The only thing that's missing is throw pillows.

Keep the garden theme - you can always add flower fairies if you want to "girlie" it up a little for the older one.

individual hampers for your lil darlin's so they can learn to put dirty clothes where they belong = ) They are never to young to learn. My daughter has a book shelf and the toy sorters you can buy that have the individual buckets are nice. ( they have the toy sorters at Target and Toys R Us last I looked)

Just one idea: maybe if your daughter likes princesses she would also go for fairies, which would be able to be blended with the garden theme. Like, an enchanted garden? Just an idea. Best wishes on your girls' new room!

This is what my girls say
1. They said that really popular colors right now are lime green and purple
2. Get lots of throw pillows for their beds (with princesses on them for the princess) little girls love to have alot of pillows to lay on
3. For the rug, they said that you should get a funky rug with flowers or princesses or zebra print on it

It's going to be a trick getting and keeping them both asleep, so how about a cd player and a couple cds of lullabys or soft classical music.

We have gotten the most use out of a kid sized table and chairs. They play games and have tea parties and read books. Maybe your 6 mo old can't make use of that now, but she'll grow into it. You can get a Disney Princess set for $20 at the Dollar store, or they have really nice wooden sets at Target and Ikea. Target has a light pink and green color scheme with Daisys all over it. That might go nicely in your little garden.

We also have have had endless fun with thier little kitchen. I've never seen a little girl that didn't walk in thier room and go straight for the kitchen.

Hi Michelle-

I suggest you get a toy box for each child, and they can put their special toys in THEIR toy box, and no one can play with them. While you're 6 month old is a little young to benefit from this, time will fly by when both girls will need this.

When I was a Nanny, I worked for a family whoes girls shared a room, and them having their "special" box was VERY helpful.

When kids share a room, they often feel that they do not have anything of their own. By providing them with a special place, it makes life easier on all.
