My oldest daughter is going to be turning six in a few weeks. I wasn't planning on having a big party for her this year, but she has been invited to two parties from classmates and now wants to have a party of her own. There are twelve little girls in her class and I have the help of my mom and sister. Now the question is what do I do? I want it to be pretty simple, just a couple of hours on a Saturday afternoon. Does anyone have any simple, inexpensive ideas? P.S. She loves princesses.
My daughter and I hosted a princess party for her thirteen girl classmates last weekend. It was a big hit! Thanks for all of the ideas. We printed out our own invitations that invited everyone to a princess's royal birthday party. They were told to dress in their best princess or dress up dresses. Then when everyone arrived, everyone decorated a foam crown with foamy stickers and stick-on jewels and put a little make up on. They were all well on own way to looking like little princesses, but we still needed jewelry, so the next activity was the "Giant Jewelry Box Treasure Hunt" in which they followed the clues (which they had to read themselves) to find the giant jewelry box. Everyone got lip gloss rings, bracelets and necklaces. Then we took pictures of the princesses dancing and modeling their new princess look. After opening presents and some cupcakes and ice cream the girls went off to play, while I burned CDs with all of the pictures from the party. My daughter had written thank you on each of the CDs earlier, so this was our thank you cards to each guest. The party was fun and I have had several moms tell me since how their daughters talked non-stop about all the fun they had. Thanks again for all of the great ideas! The party wouldn't have been nearly as fun without them.
Why not do a girl's tea party. If you know of someone that could do a Princess Doll cake that would be the topper. You could make it like a dress up day for just girls and moms too.

A friend of mine hosted a tea party for her daughters birthday. All the little girls came dressed up and for the day were known as "princess (their name)" They got to wear tiara's and had tea and cake. The party was a huge hit and was fairly inexpensive.

My daughter gave me the exact same scenario for her sixth birthday. I'm not typically the corny/cutsie idea kind of person, and I'm not very creative, but I found some cute ideas after browsing the internet for party ideas. For her invitations, I made our own. I found a picture of a castle and used it as a full page background, and then made the invitation to sound like the Renaissance period kind of announcement, saying that the princess was celebrating her royal birthday, etc. (I even got so cheesy as to put the RSVP to Queen Mom....the other moms actually thought it was cute!) We requested that all the girls wear their favorite princess costume, which all the girls loved doing. I bought some of those small, inexpensive keepsake wooden boxees (with lids on hinges that latch) at WalMart. I think they were about $1 each. I also got a few tubes of paint and a bag of jewels and other little decorations, and each of the girls got to paint and decorate her own jewel box. We also did a pinata, which had no relevance, but my daughter was crazy about them anyhow. (This was also in November, so it was the only outdoor thing we had to do!) It lasted about 2 hours or so, and the girls had fun just playing while dressed up. They didn't need a bunch of activities planned for them. I spent less than $50 total for her party, including the decorations, boxes and accessories, simple goodie bags, cake, and ice cream. Just have fun with it. I learned not to worry about looking cheesy with what was planned, because it really is for the girls and not the parents. It doesn't take much to entertain six year old girls when you tell them they can dress up and play. Good luck!
A princess birthdya party - fun! We have had two of them for our girls. Invite the other girls to come dressed up as princesses. Set a pretty table with a real table cloth, pretty dishes, flowers. They can do a craft project. Go to Burger King and ask for the number of crowns you would need for each girl coming, plus a couple of extra. Get some gold, silver or pink spray paint (use only one color) and spray paint the crowns. Get craft jewels & glue to have the girls decorate their crowns. You can have small pb&j sandwiches cut into fun shapes like hearts & diamonds(if no one's alergic to peanutbutter), some slices of oranges, apples & grapes and serve juice in pretty glasses. Then celebrate with presents and birthday cake. Then let the girls dance to princess music.(It's fun if Dad or grandpa can be there to dance with the Birthday princess and guest). They can dance while they wait for their parents to pick them up. Another game could be place the horn on the unicorn.(like pin the tail on the donkey). You could plan a princess "treasure hunt" around the house or yard for little treat bags. They can leave with a princess bag of treats and/or a small bouquet of flowers tied with a pink ribbon, their crown and happy memories. Just some ideas to have a simply fun birthday party.
Have all of the little girls come dressed in their princess outfits and let them do a craft such as making jeweled crowns, bracelets, or magic wands. You can get all of the necessary supplies at Joann's or Hobby Lobby for not much. And be sure to watch the Sunday paper for 50% off coupons for both places. Instead of cake, serve pretty cupcakes or cookies. For gift bags, I always go to Claire's and pick up clearance items such as barrett's, jewelry, keychains, etc. Sometimes you can get 10 items for $5.00. My daughter is 11 and I have gotten party favors for most of her parties there. Have a wonderful party!! Angie P.

1.I saw something at Michaels arts and craft center to hold parties, you can bring everything there. Price $2 or $3 per child for a craft.
2.Have a dress up party and take pictures, "there own Glamour photo shoot". Call your friends to lend dresses, hats, boas, do there own make up? And take pictures? Set up your own studio?

My daughter and I just attended a friend's princess party. There were 10 girls including the birthday girl. Her mom got beads and strechy string and the girls made necklaces. She also got inexpensive foam crowns from WalMart and put the girl's names on them. Then girls decorated them with stickers. That took about a 1/2 an hour and then we had a Princess pull string pinatia (also from WalMart) and cake and presents. The entire party lasted about 2 hours and the kids had a great time! Hello, Im the mom of a 10 year old and twin 6 year old girls! Lots of princesses here! We had a dress up princess tea party last year! We had the girls bring their dress up finest and supplied some extra, gave feather boas and small sparkly purses and jewelry for party favors and had a tea party. We took "glamour shot "type pictures of each girl all dressed up and sent them home with them after printing them on computer. They loved it and Its easy when you have a little help! We used vintage table cloths and real china, mismatched ofcourse and served sprite (no stains that way!) and lots of cookies. Less mess that with a cake! Good Luck!

I had a friend who had the PERFECT idea in keeping with princesses. She had twin daughters who were my own daughter's age. When they were around 6 or so, their party was a "Cinderella" party. She had a friend who had been in the U.S. Marine Corps, and being the good sport that he was, he dressed in his "dress blues" uniform complete with sword so that he could play the part of the "prince". She found a beautiful little pillow at Penney's or Pier One, just small and with fur around the outside of it, and I think at Toys'R Us she found a Cinderella "glass slipper". Her friend John, the "prince" greeted the girls at the front door with a princely "salute" and kissed their hands. The girls all wore a "princess dress" to the party. All the napkins, plates, cake, etc. was a "Cinderella" motif. After everyone got there, John told them that he was the handsome prince and he was there to find the beautiful love of his life that he'd danced with at the ball. He briefly told the story of what had happened about them being at the ball, and that the beautiful girl had had to run out at midnight, and he chased her, but she got away in a carriage that was fit for a queen. BUT, she had left the glass slipper. He was going to try it on all of them and see if their foot would fit. He brought out the slipper on the pillow, and went around to each girl and tried it on (of course it fits all of them)and then at the end, he said something like, "I am surrounded by a room of beautiful princesses who can all wear the slipper. I have jewels to give each of you." The party favors were fake "diamond" rings and tiaras among other things. Of course they had their cake and opened presents, and played some games. At the end, John declared they were each a PRINCESS and that he would see them to their "coach" when their parents came for them. He walked them to the car with great ceremony, opened the door for them and thanked them for trying on the slipper. They all just loved it. My daughter talked about that for weeks. The catch is, finding a willing male with a uniform to give up a couple of hours from watching ballgames on Saturday. <g>

Tea party at a local tea room, your house or community center. Have the girls dress up in their Sunday finest & provide hats, gloves, beads (ie: from Madi Gras). You can get these items at a dollar store or Good Will store.
When my daughter turned 5, she wanted something princess-like. I got together a bag full of dress-up clothes and costumes, high-heeled shoes and toy jewelry. We had cake, served on dessert plates, and fruit punch served in teacups and saucers. We didn't have to plan any games, because we let the girls' imagination lead them in play. Instead of cake, cookies and finger sandwiches would be great, and relatively inexpensive. If you don't have the china sets, decorated paper plates and plastic wine glasses would do the trick. I have a 6 year old daughter too that loves princesses! Last year I wanted something small and simple so we did lunch a pizza hut. It was 3 hours from start to finish and everyone seemed satisfied. Pizza, cake, presents and we're done! The year before I had a princess party for her. Everything pink and purple! I invited all the girls in her class to dress up like a princess and come to her party. That party however might turn out to be a little longer than you're wanting but, you don't have to entertain as much because the girls are busy entertaining themselves with their outfits. You can always put a time on the invitations ex: 12 - 2 pm. That way the party will end when you want it too because parents will be picking up their child at the desinated time. Hope this helps!
If you have a craft store like Michael's in your area...head there...I would recommend the foamie section...There are quite a few really neat things the kids can make and take as party favors (kills 2 birds with one stone as to what to do and give). I have seen picture frames, make your own tiara, make your own wand, castle, etc...so it really gives you a range of what you want to spend...most of the kits come in a plastic box with everything you need but glue. Another option, if it is affordable, is to take the kids to Michael's and do a craft project there...that way the mess is at their place and not yours! :) I would recommend making her cake as opposed to buying one if you are trying to save money. There are a variety of ways to approach this...If you are doing a standard rectangle...head to Walmart/grocery story and smooze with bakery to sell you the Disney princess's they put on the cakes....if they won't do that either a) go down the toy aisle and pick up the one she likes in the polly pocket version and voila you have topper & gift or b) just go to the party favor section (not dress up - they charge more) and buy a cheap crown and wand and place that one the cake...Instant princess cake. Or you could do cupcakes and get a bag of fancy rings and each princess will get a piece of jewelry to go with their costume. You can also go to the Disney web site and there is a site for the princesses, you can actually print out pages the girls can color...if you want to get fancy get some glitter glue pens and the gems they can glam it up with. I also troll ebay for any misc party items...sometimes people get rid of their overstock or have bought too many for their own child's party and will offer you a really great deal for the lot...they may also include party favors...the bags...well, just buy some white paper bags and let the girls glam them up and make their own princes pouches! A little yarn, some gems (even if you head to Salvation army or dig through your closets and find a treasure trove of old broken jewelry will work) add glue and markers...you've got several hours of entertainment...Invite the girls to dress up as their fav princess and watch a princess movie...I would pick something short like the princess stories (vol 1-3) they are shorter and more party appropriate...there is even one on manners which everyone could practice come cake time! And won't their parents be thrilled they learned something too! :) Good luck and have fun! Oh, BTW- don't ever underestimate your local dollar store....they are worth their weight in gold....I found a Dora pinata at one last year for $6 (less than 1/2 going rate). Best of luck! L. My 5 yr. old (will be 6 this Spring) loves princesses, too. I don't know if you were wanting to have a party in your home, but if that's the case, what about a princess tea party? They could bring their favorite doll or teddy along. If you have some items they could play dress up in that would be fun, and you could have some iced cookies and let the girls decorate with sprinkles, etc. If you have a Pampered Chef large batter bowl (or equivalent), you can bake a cake in it, invert on plate, ice and, with a little cardboard, make a handle- tea cup birthday cake! If you have access to digital camera and printer that can print pictures, let them each pose for a photo alone or with the birthday girl. You could get some of those clear plastic frames (usually very inexpensive) and let them decorate with stick-on jewels, etc. Then everyone goes home with a party favor that is personal. We did this photo thing at a mother/daughter banquet and the girls (and moms)loved it! You could also do Disney DVD Bingo to keep part of the group busy while others are getting pictures or completing other activities. I think this game runs around $15.00 and is a great investment! My 5 & 7 yr. olds love it! I don't think 12 could play at one time but they would definitely enjoy it. Of course, my last bit of advice would be to leave enough time for them to just play- they'll have so much fun, and what a nice gift to give to your little girl. Whatever you decide to do, have a great time with it!
Tell the young ladies to come in their dress up clothes. Then have them make their own crown out of castution paper, have a modal walk with music and a made up talk about their outfits. Ask the mothers if you can polish the young girls nail with clear polish and do light makeup on them. For the cake had a Princess on it.
If she loves princesses then what about having a Royal Ball party. Have everyone come dressed up as a princess and you can have music for dancing. You can create crowns out of cardstock, markers, and glitter. Cupcakes. You can have the kids decorate their own cupcakes with different colored sprinkles. For the invitations your could do something like a scroll and say, "Hear Ye, Hear Ye..., You are invited to Princess ____'s Royal Ball.....Please RSVP to the King or Queen ...Royal attire required." You could have feather boas and plastic bead necklaces for dress up. You could paint their fingernails. Hope this helps! Have fun!
You know. you don't have to have a big party just because her classmates did, even if you daughter wants it. Small and personal are always better. But if you really want to do it, have it around 1:30 to 3:30 or 4:00 and word the invitation : Join us for cake and ice cream. That way they will have eaten lunch before they show up, which saves you money. We have had a princess party, where the kids came dressed up. You can also do a princess make-over party, gather up unused make-up you have lying around; they will LOVE it and it takes the majority of the time to do. You could also do some cheap foam crafts that are available at Walmart to give them a favor to take home. Keep it simple and save your sanity! :) I hope this helps.
I have an 8 year old daughter and for her birthday, I gave her a princess make-over party. I called a mary kay consultant and she taught the girls how to clean their faces. then they put very pale pink eyeshadow on. I purchased lip gloss for each girl. I went to a party supply store and purchased crowns, bracelets, rings, and even cute tattoos. I think I spend a total of $25. My daughter loved it and wants to do it again. One of the cutest parties I've ever taken my girls (I have 3) to was a tea party. You could host a princess tea party. The girls can make their own bonnets from butcher paper wrapped around their heads, held with tape, and decorated with sequins, ribbons and markers. Serve punch and cake and play musical chairs or pin the crown on the princess. Good luck! :)

About your daughters birthday party. You could go to the Dollar store and get plates and cups and other party accessories there, and get a cake at dillons they have wonderful prices on cakes for any kind of event. I think at the Dollar Tree they have balloons with princesses on them. I hope my advice will help you in some kind of way.
Hi Stephanie. My son just turned 5 last month, and we had his birthday party at Chuck E Cheese. It was around $11.00 a kid, which included 30 game tokens per child, pizza, and a drink. They provided the plates and cups, ballons, and a few other extras. The nice thing about the place is that the kids don't have to be heavily supervised, since they give each child and their parents hand stamps and make sure that they match upon their exit. I would definitely reccommend it. Compared to other places that we priced, this was not a bad deal. The kids had a blast! I hope this helps.

when I did a princess party for my daughter last summer it was great!!! They all came dressed up, we put on sticker earings, I had a bunch of cstume jewlery that had belonged to my great Aunt that they loved to wear. I had them each take turns picking a piece and then trading each ohter. I had a crown and jewlery for each girl to take home as party favors. (the jewlery came from "Claire's" Sale they had 10 things for $5.) we painted fingernails (you could also do make-up, but I had a parent who prefered that I did not....)and then I took each childs picture for their thank you note. Instead of cake I had cookies that they each could decorate with edible candies and sparkly things. I have also seen crowns that come in a kit and they could decorate them. Have a great party!!!
My daughters have been to a cupcake decorating party. When the girls got there, the cupcakes were already frosted & they got to decorate them however they wanted. There are lots of Disney Princess decorations & I think that age group would have a blast. Good luck. I hope this idea helps!

My advice to you is just have a little something at your house. My daughter is 9 and we have had a few of her birthday parties at my mom's house even. It's a very inexpensive way to go. We ordered food from psghetti's, and i bought the decorations, and just ordered the cake. She can invite a few of her friends. And have a princess theme!

A fun party that we had for my daughter when she turned 5 was a tea party. We set the table in a cloth table cloth, had flowers. The girls got to wear their dress-up clothes and we had crowns and boas. They drank pink lemonaid out of fancy little tea cups that I found at the thrift store and ate small little sandwiches on cute little tea plates. It was a lot of fun and the girls thought it was great to play dress up.

We did a super fun party last year with my four year old. It was my favorite so far!!
We did a "bakery" theme and the girls made their own pizzas and then each decorated a small cake. First I made up invitations like a recipe... ingredients (the newest four year old, sweet friends, sprinkles, etc), time to bake and so on. Then I got those mini Boboli pizza crusts and set up a pizzaria where the girls could put on all their own toppings. We baked 'em and ate 'em and they loved it.
After the pizza, it was real bakery time. I had baked ahead of time individual 6" cakes, and the girls went to town frosting, sprinkling and decorating their own cakes to take home. They were quite proud of themselves! Everyone shared a small piece of the Birthday Girl's creation, and everyone elses cake got wrapped in a bakery box slapped with their own personal labels to take home. This was great because it substituted having to send home a goodie bag or prizes. Also, since this was our first "drop-off" birthday party, we took lots of pictures during the "baking" and burned them all onto a cd real quick to send home with the girls so parents could see how much fun they had with their "creations".

I have a five year old turning 6. I looked all over to find the best place and decided to do the lakeside nature center. It's super inexpensive and they bring in animals for the little ones to see. It's perfect if you have tons of kids. You can theme it anyway you like. Everywhere else I checked into was two much money for as many guests my daughter wants. It's her first time that she has so many guests b/c of kindergarten and dance class.

My granddaughter turned six last September and her mama let her have a slumber party. Very simple, fun movies, lots of snacks and girls love to play dress-up. They pretty much kept themselves occupied and they had lots of fun. Good luck with your plans and Happy Birthday to your daughter.
How about a princess tea party? The girls can come dressed up in dresses, hats, boas, gloves, etc and you can serve cupcakes, tea/koolaid and finger foods. I remember my daughter's brownie scout leader doing this once and she shopped at 2nd hand stores to find old tea cups/plates that were fancy but still in good shape and each of the girls got to take their tea cup and plate home. She also took toothpicks and used green floral tape to put a mini rosebud on the top of each one to use to stick in the hor'dorves (sp?) and took a picture of each girl individually and then as a group. With today's digital cameras you could e-mail the individual and group picture to each girl so they can have them printed, or if you want to print them while the party is going on you can send the pictures home in a small inexpensive frame (Dollar Tree is great for those). My daughter who is now 13 still has the tea cup, plate and dress-up picture displayed in her room. Hope your little girl has a fun party!
I think you should heve a dress up party and have all the little girls come in there dresses and maybe let them put on some makeup. My little girl is 5 and 3 and I have a son that is 7 months and we just went to a little girls party that she had a dress up party and her mom had crowns and let the girl decorate them by thereselve that had a blast
Come up with a theme, and make a plan and have activities planned right down to each hour. Six-years old love to play dress-up, and you can use big-people clothes, hats, gloves and make-up. Then you can do imitations of people they want to pretend they are.
Do something educational, but fun. I had a sleepover for girls that age, and we baked muffins, but I let them determine the 1/4's and 1/2s and fractions that the recipe called for. They enjoyed figuring the math, and coming up with the correct answers especially when we were doubling or tripling the recipes. Take lots of pictures. Have fun.
I had one for my grandaughter and the pinata' went over real well. They have princess ones and get a fill bag and then hang it on a rope that you can control by pulling up and down so everyopne gets a chance before it breaks. My sister did a make up party. cheap make up and have the girls do each other up. a libby lou from home. You can do the make up in gift bags.you can have them each bring a dress up outfit to suprise each other. and do each others hair. Have mirrors around the table and have them pair off. another is princess gift bags.I suggest the carnival or party city store to get in multiples. I also think a tea party is cute or a make your own mini pizza party. have all the fixins in bowls on a table and let them make their own. The crust could be bagels split and then toast them in the oven until all is melted. Good Luck
You can get little party favors for fairly cheap at walmart. Then you have goodie bags for all. My son just turned six, we did the party at Pizza Hut, may be more than you are looking at.
If it's a nice day, you can go to a park and have it there. That way its only cake and ice cream. If you have a large enough home, just do a couple of games, and cake.
I know some of my friends go all out for thier kids parties. Personally I have more fun myself at a party that is laid back and the parents are there also.
Just my opinion.
You could have a princess party have the girls wear their best princess dress up clothes and have a tea party, with home made surgar cookies (pre bought but they decorate) They could even put glitter make up on, just fun stuff like that. Even let them have a spa day...you sister and mom want to help let one do make up one do nails just girlie it up... we have three girls 11, 6, 4 so I've done most all of it. GOOD LUCK!!!
My 6 year old son just went to a 6 year old daughter's birthday party at CiCi's. Usually only about half of who you invite will show up. Can you just have one at your house or Grandma's with games and pizza. My sister once bought English muffins and had a little set up of lots of toppings and made their own pizzas. Can also do that with ice cream. Also, can make a runway of cheap plastic roll of something I saw in a magazine once, let them play dress-up and make-up and have a little modeling show, maybe some cheap tiaras. Used something over the door hanging down to where it would swish when they come through and not reveal them when they come out. Beads, strips of those rolls of paper, etc. Another party my daughter went to once was a party with a "tea party". All the girls dressed up in dresses and wore hats and they had a tea party. That was fun. Then had games afterwards.

I had a princess party for my 4 year old last year and she loved it. We had 8 little girls, and they were all so well behaved that having 12 would have been no problem. We requested that they princesses all arrive at her "castle" in "their most appropriate attire" (I attached gold party crowns to the invites, that they could wear to the party), so we had little Disney princesses running around. I used tea sets for the dishes, and made the food into tiny portions. The table was decorated in pink, with flowers, big tulle bows on each chair. I used pink, purple and yellow balloons and streamers. The games were "pin the lips on the frog" (I made it), and they had to pass the princess "test" of sitting on a pile of pillows to see if they could feel the "pea" (a golf ball in the top pillow). After each game they'd get to pick another piece of jewelry out of the treasure box (these were the favors). Maybe some of these ideas will help, or at least spark some ideas of your own. I have 6 year old triplets and this year we had a bowling party. They loved it! They didn't even want to quit bowling to open their presents and I'm not sure they had cake! I had to pay per kid and then a cake and some decorations. Not having it at home, it was the easiest party we've ever had! We have gone to several skating parties that the kids seemed to enjoy too.
Have a tea party for she and her friends. They can "dress up" and bring their favorite doll or stuffed animal. Have little cakes or petit fleurs. Not sure of spelling on that one. I've heard of this and seen pictures and it looks like a party I would have liked when I was six - especially if they are into princesses. Ruffles and hats are especially favorite dress up items. I've heard that some cities have "Tea Rooms" that can be used or rented for this. Or just dress up a dining room with inexpensive tulle. Drape as a canopy over the dining room table and tie with bows in corners of ceiling. Use your imasgination. This should be fun for you to plan too.

I had a princess party for my daughter for her 7th birthday. We put on the invitations that it was a princess party and to come dressed up. All of the girls came dressed as princesses. I got a very inexpensive craft from the local craft store that was a kit to make their own wands and crowns. Included stickers and glitter glue and such. That took up about 30-45 minutes of the party. I also painted all of their nails. That was another 30 minutes or so. And by the time we did gifts, cake and the girls played for a bit, party over. I also made gift bags for each girl and put things like play necklaces and stuff, all items I bought in bulk from the craft and party stores. Very cheap and they had loads of fun. Even my sister and I dressed up! She still talks about that party and is now 8 1/2!
