Curious if you ladies would feel comfortable delivering your baby at a brand new hospital. The new hospital opens soon and I am due in August. I haven't been able to check the place out but am a little worried about being one of the first people to give birth there. I had a litle bit of complications in the beginning of pregnancy especially due to IVF. The 20 week US was perfectly normal and we are doing great now. The new hospital only has a special care nursery not a NICU but I don't know if I will even need to have a NICU. Im just nervous about making wrong decision and don't have a lot of time to figure it out!!!

What can I do next?

I wouldn't be nervous, your doctor will be there right?

My sister is a hospital administrator and I asked her this question. She said that any hospital will more than likely have an experienced administrator to handle the startup. Hospitals like any other business want everything to run smoothly and their worst fear is a lawsuit. I imagine their staff and leadership will not be new to the job. That being said, there are never any guarantees at any hospital.

You know, it would never have occurred to me to worry about delivering at a new hospital. But since you are worried about it, let me say there will be plenty of things that you will have to think about/ worry about when you are going to deliver a baby and afterwards. If this was something that was causing me concern, I would choose a different hospital just to have that peace of mind. You want to be able to trust the nurses and staff that are surrounding you and your baby. As far as the NICU goes, maybe your doctor can put your mind at ease if you ask him what would happen in a worst-case scenario. Perhaps there is a nearby hospital with NICU that can take your baby if needed.

I don't think you should worry about birthing at a brand new hospital. There will be far less germs and everything will be new just like your baby!

I personally wouldn't worry about it and would feel better because there will likely be less germs everywhere at least. But I do know what you mean and can understand your concern. My husband will actually be transferring to work at that hospital and so it's not like the drs. and people running/working there are brand new - so I think you and baby will still be in good hands no matter where you go, you will just be in a newer building and will probably have more amenities I would iimagine. good luck!!

I wouldnt worry, but I would find another hospital, just on the chance that the new one wont be open yet. I drive by it everyday and from the looks, who knows if it will even be open then.
