I am looking for your recommendations for a "superb" gynecologist. I am unhappy with my current OB/GYN and want to make a move. I do not have to worry about childbirth because I am 54, am in the midst of menopause, and my hubbie had a vasectomy long ago. So, I am fine if the physicians' specialty is ONLY gynecology (no obstetrics); but, of course, an OB/GYN is OK. However, I DO have a few criteria that I hope to fulfill. If you do not feel that your physician reflects these traits, please don't recommend him or her. Also, it would be great to find a doctor in the medical center area, if possible.
I am interested in finding a practitioner: (1) who takes time to LISTEN and TALK to me; and (2) who is proactive with my "total health profile."
I specifically want a gynecologist that addresses overall patient health because I am currently overweight, and for the past 3-4 years I have had increasing difficulty in losing weight. My problem is NOT "strictly" overeating (although I am a great cook and I admit to the necessity of strict portion control in order to effectively lose weight.) But, even when I am very cautious about the amount of food that I intake, I still not cannot lose weight - which gets discouraging. Also, I have been experiencing extreme hot flashes and sweating - the apparent symptoms of menopause - for going on 5 years! I would appreciate a gynecologist who considers it in their "domain" to help me address these issues. Some questions I would like addressed are:
- Could my weight gain perhaps be related to other issues? Could it primarily be influenced by menopausal issues, rather than overeating? If so, are there treatments, such as natural, hormonal or drug therapy that can kick-start one's metabolism?
- Do my hot flashes and night sweats stem from menopause or perhaps some other cause (perhaps in combination with menopause)? I do have high blood sugar (am pre-diabetic) and, sometimes I think that the TIMING of SOME of my hot flashes are connected to eating a meal. Unfortunately, there is no real "pattern" other than I have hot flashes "all of the time." I generally have several hot flashes per hour, and rarely go for more than a hour (2 hr. at the most) between them. My last OB/GYN seems completely indifferent regarding hot flashes, acting as if they are a necessary evil. This physician indicates that " 2-5 years after my last period, these hot flashes "may" cease". I realize that we are all unique individuals, but every time I have a period (which is now only ever 6-9 months) I could cry thinking about having another 2 to 5 or even more years of "personal thermostat" problems! I would like to feel some empathy/sympathy from my physician and really want a practitioner that is willing to recommend some protocol or therapy to minimize the problem. [FYI - I am constantly sitting under an electric fan, and want the A/C as low as it will go (although we only set it 76 to 77 for economic reasons and, even so, my cold-sensitive husband is freezing.)]
Here is what "put me over the top." At my last OB/GYN visit - about a year ago - I suggested to my doctor that I was concerned because I thought the shape of my navel was changing. I received little more than a glance at it and the comment, "if you're contemplating your navel, you've got too much time on you hands." I was so miffed, because there WERE changes and I was making a genuine medical inquiry. Well, over the course of the past year, indeed I continued to see changes in my navel. My primary care physician just looked at it last week and (no surprise to me) verified that I have an umbilical hernia. He is sending me to a surgeon to have it evaluated for repair. I wonder what would have happened if I had addressed the issue when I first observed the changes to my OB/GYN?
At the cost of today's healthcare, I simply have little regard for a physician that does not have time for me and my health. I cannot see the OB/GYN that I have seen in the past, and I am now slightly overdue for an annual check-up. Please help me find someone who will give me a sense of connection and concern.

Dr. Michelle Harden is SO nice ###-###-#### She was at seven oaks , but just opened up her own practice.
Dr. Jennifer Jacobs with the Lone Star Ob/Gyn group has been very good. My first trip with complaints to a previous obgyn got me no where. He wouldn't even let me finish a sentance before he was telling me it was just hormones and everything would be OK with birth control. He was very condescending. A year later things were no better, actually worse, and I asked around for a new dr. She came highly recommended from a friend who had a lot of issues herself. Dr. Jacobs looked me in the eye and listened to my description of what was going on. After a physical and an ultrasound, I was schedule for minor surgery. Things are sooo much better now. My mom was also very impressed with her, when she came to give her an update after surgery. She has been very good with follow up and telling me all options. This is the first female obgyn that I have had in 20 years! Women are so much more empathetic and less likely to think your "women" problems are all in your head.

The DR. that i go to is Dr. K. Carcamo, she is with Institute for Womens Health. She takes her time and answers all your questions. I like her alot. They have a office located in the medical center area. HOpe that helps

I go to Dr. David Garza he is wonderful. I had an issue with my old doctor so I was super neveros going to the new one. So when I did I told him stright up how I felt and how nerves I was. He was wonderful. His whole family is OB/GYN. His dad, brother and sisters. I love him!

I recommend a Dr Brian Harle. He is OBGYN, but I think he fits your profile. He also has an excellent female nurse practioner. He is 46-47 years old and is with a group called Seven Oaks Women Center. He will not belittle you in anyway. I can recommend 2 gret doctors, I had to change cause she isn't an OB. Rebecca Cavazos last # I have for her is ###-###-#### out of near the hospital near 410 and Starcrest. My reg dr for a long time had told me the pains I had in my left side were just cramps, and long story she determined it was a 15lb cyst on my left overy, I didn't know better I was about 20 at the time. She is patient, and listens seems knowledgeable. But when I got pregnate I had to change, I went with Celyna Delgado ###-###-#### she is out of St. Luke's she is a family dr and that felt little weird, but it seemed to work out for the better. She definatley keeps dr/patient confidentiality, I know her mom and she didn't even tell her when I was pregnate. Twice. She listens, understands, answers, (no BS either).

I just moved to town last summer and was very blessed to find a fantastic ob/gyn. Her name is Jennifer Jacabs and she has her office over in the medical center area. Dr. Richard Lackritz is in the Medical Center. He has been my Ob/GYN for both of my daughters births and has been my mother's GYN for , I think, 27 years. He is very knowledgeable, kind, and patient. He has listened to every concern I've had and taken them seriously. Sometimes I had a valid concern sometimes I was just worrying, but always listened and explained.

I absolutely love my current OB/GYN and she too found I have a umbilical hernia (I am currently 36 wks and some days pregnant, so we are inducing as of tomorrow) where then we will deal with that issue. She has always listened to my concerns and assisted me as needed.

I was seeing an OB/GYN before I had my son, then switched for insurance reasons. However, his name is Ash Dabbous, # ###-###-####. He is young, but I did like him. I'm sure you can call and set up an interview with him. The girls in his office were always very nice, and he is in the medical center...Medical Park Plaza, I believe. The ONLY drawback to him is that he can be a procrastinator. The doctor I went to for my pregnancy was Dr. Carey Britt, and he was cordial, but I don't think I will go back to him for baby 2. I really did like Dr. Dabbous....with out insurance, he can be expensive. I hope this helps!

I've been on peri-menopausal meds for the past eight-plus years to control serious night sweats, hot flashes, and insomnia. It's worked well, but has been never ending.
