I love love love sugar and spice confections http://www.sugarandspiceconfections.com/ They have done cakes for both my teenage daughter and elementary school age son. They taste as good as they look. Definatly worth it! - T.
I would like to have a unique birthday cake made for my daughter's 2nd birthday. Can anyone recommend a business or person who makes great tasting and pretty cakes that are not outrageously expensive in the Kansas city area? Thanks.
Thank you for all your suggestions. I went with bloom bakery and they did a fantastic job!

Bloom Baking Company in the River Market is supposed to be very good. Probably not super cheap, though.
A friend of mine does wonderful cakes and doesn't charge an arm and a leg. Her name is Peggy and her number is ###-###-####. She can email you pictures too of some of her cakes. She is wonderful and very creative in look and taste.
Good luck and God Bless.
Chacko's on Johnson Drive, just east of 35 makes nice cakes. Whole Foods also makes very good cakes, but I don't know how much decorating they do.
i have a friend from high school who has a little cake making business on the side, she does a great job! i hired her on to do some gluten free cakes for my kids bday and they turned out AWESOME. i dont know if she had an official website, but i know that she has this one on facebook:
