looking for a bakery that is able to do cutesy cake for her first birthday and a symbolic cake (i.e. cross shape) for her baptism...what do you think..thanks...
Concord Teacakes in West Concord - their cakes taste great but also are very pretty. I have used them over the years for several birthdays & baptisms. They will either do "generic" designs - or for an extra fee duplicate a napkin, invitation, etc.
I actually ordered a cake from Harvest Bakery in Bristol, CT for my son's 1st and 2nd birthday. His 2nd birthday cake was a construction theme..the cake came out incredible...so much detail...roads, construction workers, construction signs! We received sooo many compliments. I have been very happy with their food and cakes!

I love Mozzicato's in Hartford, it's an authentic Italian bakery. The sponge cake with strawberries, peaches and whipped cream frosting is great in the spring/summer and can be decorated for any occasion.

I get all my cakes from Konditor Meister in Braintree...wonderful cakes, real butter cream frosting, lots of designs to choose from. These cakes are not that much more expensive than a grocery store cake, but they are a lot better quality.

Hello, I am not sure where you are located but I used Cakes by Michelle up in Billerica. Her cakes are also nut free so it is great for people with allergies and the cakes are tasty and moist and she creates any kind of cake. She also delivers to certain areas too. She did a Hannah Montana/Thomas Train/Dora combo cake for me - how's that for creativity?
If you are in the Leominster/Fitchburg MA area then I would go with Dutch Kitchen - they are a little pricey but worth every bit. They are located on Summer Street in Fitchburg at the end of Bemis Road (diagonally across from Carol's Dairy Bar) in a little plaza. I have also heard Joyce's Bakery on North Main Street Leominster is good.

Hi A.
I don't know where you live, but This Takes The Cake in Quincy has yummy cakes with butter cream frosting. They do yellow, chocolate, 1/2 and 1/2 and carrot cakes, I think. The cakes are really moist. They can scan pictures onto the cakes or do other designs. I hope this is helpful. Good luck. They are located at 764 Hancock St across from St Ann's church, and their number is (617) 773-CAKE(2253).Here's a link: http://www.thistakesthecake.com/

Most bakeries will do custom cakes for you.
There is the Cake Lady on Rte 18 (whitman or weymouth area)[have not tried her myself], Whites's Bakery [LOVE THEM]- one in Brockton behind Owen Oleary's and one in Hingham (I think), Icing on the Cake in Newton [sampled their cakes and we love them too] and ofcourse Montillio's in Brockton - [FABULOUS - did our wedding cake]....
They can all ususally do anything you request and may have a sample book.
I am not sure about supremarket bakeries for the cross but they usually have a small little cake - looks like a big roudn one - just for the little ones first birthday or other occasion (bought one once for my great grandmother for her birthday - it was just the right size)

Roche Brothers supermarkets has a nice selection of children cakes (especially the character cakes) that are reasonably priced and taste pretty good.
We have also done the Costco cake in the past and they were very nice- I wanted a pirate theme for my son's cake and bought decorations for the cake myself. I asked them to modify their Stitch and Lilo cake and leave the decorations off- they were very accomodating and did a nice job too.

Konditor Meister cakes are amazing ... they taste great and they are beautiful. I can also tell you that BJ's makes the moistest cakes. I have done both of my children's first birthday cakes there. If you bring them a picture of your child they can scan the picture into frosting and have an edible picture of your child on the cake. They are inexpensive and all of my friends and family are amazed at how moist and delicious their cakes are. For my daughters second birthday I found a great picture of Elmo and they scanned that into the cake with a picture of her! It was awesome and she loved it! I really suggest you try their cake!

I used a fabulous bakery in Cumberland RI for mine -- they made absolutely gorgeous cakes shaped like crosses as well as shaped like Christening gowns as well as of course all the traditional cakes. Delicious too! They have four locations in Rhode Island. We live about 25 minutes away in MA, but it was so worth the drive.

HI A.,
If you are a BJ"s wholesale club member, check out their prices for sheet cakes. They are VERY reasonable and they have a whipped cream frosting that is delicious. Not sure if they will be able to accomodate your "cross-shape" though. My advise would be go to BJ's for the birthday cake and with the money you save there, then you can go to a "fancy" bakery to do the baptism cake. Art's International Bakery in Taunton does a great job on that sort of stuff. Good luck.. and remember,, it's only cake so don't sweat it too much.

I don't know if you're from the Cape area, but a friend of mine owns her own business called "Immaculate Confections" (clever name, huh?). She does an AWESOME job at any cake. She has many done cakes for us, including a Cheetah Girls cake, a Bratz cake that rivaled a wedding cake, a cake shaped like a map of Colorado, and a BEAUTIFUL cross cake most recently for our daughter's Baptism. She can do whatever you need, and she makes everything from scratch! These cakes are so good that my husband has traded electrical work at her house for a cake! She is very pleasant to work with. Anyways, her name is Kathy, and her phone # is ###-###-####. I wanted to attach a picture of the Cross cake, but couldn't figure out how to!

Hi A.,
I have ordered several cakes from Wright's Farm in North Smithfield, RI. I'm not sure where you are - but their pastry is great. You can even bring pictures and your own design requests and they will try to match it. My sister in law brought them the invitation from my baby shower and they copied the design (a pea pod scene) to a "T" - including the colors. I hope this helps.
