For those who have followed me through the years, my youngest just turned 17! Tomorrow she is finally taking her driving license test...been too busy with shows and mission trips for the past year! Also tomorrow, she takes this test AND she will learn what role she will get in her school's One Act Play. This is a very big deal. She is up for either a main, big, lead, could lead to scholarship type role. OR, she could get an ancillary role and still do amazing things and grow as an actor. So much for one day! She will be the best at whatever the director chooses, and she is an okay driver with a very safe Jeep once she gets her license. It is just a very big day and I would love your mommy positive thoughts! Obligatory question...do you get freaked out when your kids audition/tryout for things? I only want what is best for the team and my kid, but I freak out!!
She passed her driver's test! Yay! She is so excited for her new freedom, and I am so excited to no longer have to sit in the car and wait forever for her! And she did get cast in the One Act play, but it is a smaller role. Always room to grow and learn, she is very excited to be part of the cast.
I believe my anxiety about auditions goes back to my own high school experiences. They were all pretty memorable, not in a positive way! With my older daughter who cheered through middle and high school and now my younger who has at least 4 to 5 auditions a year, I'm slowly getting a handle on things.
Time to sit back and relax for a while. It feels good to have anything to worry about for a minute!
EDIT TO SWH! After 4 days of driving, someone slammed into her Jeep! It was completely not her fault, he readily admitted his fault to the police at the scene (I got to her before the police arrived!). Her car cannot be driven until insurance repairs (front end completely smashed), and right here at the holidays! Poor baby! She had her freedom for a MINUTE! So grateful that nobody at all was injured, cars can be fixed!

It is becoming a new dynamic for me. My older kids were so successful that every time they went for something it was just another day in our home. My younger two, lord, every freaking day seems to stress me out when they are going for something....
Why couldn't I have four similar kids??!!
Good luck to her L.!!!
Yes it is super stressful when we are waiting in results for something big.
I'll be sending my positive vibes to you and everyone in your family!! Let us know!!
As for the driving, my daughter still scares me and I worry like crazy when she's on all these expressways and more!!!
I hope your daughter has a great day! Best wishes to her.
We lived overseas, on a remote island off the coast of South America (dh's military assignment as the liaison to a foreign military base) when my ds was in high school. Ds attended an extremely small high school where he was one of only two American kids. He didn't have to try out for any sports teams, simply because he was living and breathing he made the team due to there being such a small group of students. But what freaked me out was finding out about his first "away" game. I hadn't really thought about what other schools his soccer team would play against. He came home from the first practice and said they'd be playing an away game in 2 weeks. I assumed that meant going to a different school, maybe a few miles away. But...no! They were flying on an inter-island plane to Trinidad and Tobago to play a game there! Talk about freaking out! I couldn't have even found it on a map at the time! I had barely ever heard of it! But he went and stayed in a local family's home and had a great time. That was about the only time I felt pretty freaked out about a team/school event.
Our son (17 yrs old) freaks out more than I do when he auditions for various district band groups.
He always does fine - I just wish he wouldn't be so hard on himself.
I try to look at it this way - it's not his wedding day - I'll save my freaking out for that far off day in the future.
I do get freaked out - my daughter won her school's debate competition and tomorrow is the district competition. It's her deal and I don't get involved unless she asks, but I'm on edge for her. She hates competition, and often she wins the beginning level (spelling bee, geography bee, invention convention, to name a few) and then flakes out at the next level. So we'll see.
I always feel that what happens was meant to happen ... and that's what I tell my kids. If they don't get it, then there's a reason, and maybe something more suited to them just around the corner, etc. I find this takes the pressure off me and my kids.
I hope she does well :) I'm sure you will be celebrating her efforts later today
Best of luck to her! My oldest son is also 17 and got his license in August. I went with him and was pretty nervous only because it had taken 2 months to get an road test appointment (and even that was 100 miles from where we live) and he really needed the license to get to and from work. If he hadn't passed, there was no telling when he would be able to re-test because the DMV was so backed up from last winter's storms, when they couldn't conduct road tests for 6 weeks. Luckily, he passed. Phew! I was also a little nervous for him when he was trying out for hockey this year. He didn't make varsity last year because he was injured during tryouts. He had a great 3rd year on JV and enjoyed it, but he really wanted to play a year of varsity before graduating and did get on the team and is off to a great start.
Hope your daughter gets doubly good news today!
Congrats! No I don't freak out over auditions, although I do freak out over their driving, or at least I did when they first started.
If she doesn't get the part, there will be other roles in her future.
Have fun!
Smiles! Enjoy this, because a few years from now, you'll look back and wonder where the high school years went.
Aw, take a deep breath and congratulations. My positive thoughts are headed your way. Yes, absolutely we get worked up when our kids compete and do other great things. It is just out of wanting the best for your kids and if they want it, you want it.

Happy birthday to your daughter!!
Good luck on the driving test!!
When my boys try out for sports I get nervous for them, I don't freak out.
