Need Baby Monitor Recommendations

My current monitor has a ton of static and isn't very clear, so I need to purchase a new one. I DO NOT want to listen to any more static, so I would like recommendations. I would prefer two handheld devices...one for downstairs and one for upstairs, and at this point will spend any amount of money if necessary, but prefer to keep cost down since my son is 10 months old and I only use it for nighttime sleeping. Thanks!

What can I do next?

We have the Phillips w/ DECT technology - Philips SCD 589 Digital Baby Monitor (with Zero-Interference DECT Technology). It is great ... doesn't have static and you can make it as sensitive (or not) as you want it to be. Hope that helps!

We bought the Angelcare Deluxe Movement Monitor at Toys R Us & love it. Not only is it a motion monitor, but also a sound monitor. You can set it to be voice activated & you don't have to listen to static all night long. You can also adjust the sensitivity. We have ours set to where our dd has to cry or make a loud noise for it to come on. It is pretty clear, too. It has a nursery unit (with a battery backup) with a night light & 2 rechargeable parent units. It is a bit pricey, but for me, it was well worth the price for the peace of mind.

To reduce static you need to go with a digital monitor. However I have tried 3 digital monitors and all of them had other issues like sometimes if someone is talking in the room with the monitor on the other end they sound like a robot, when talking on a cell phone the signal is picked up through the monitor. Also its not as clear as an analog one. I could hear my DD roll over with an analog one but I can only hear her or DS when they talk or cry loudly I cant hear them get up. DD is almost 4 and I still have a monitor in her room and I will till she objects to it.

We have an older graco basic model (hand me down from 10 years). There are two channels and they are crystal clear. If I get close to the speaker, I can hear the clock ticking in her room. My friends all have the newer ones that are digital, and they have sucked.

Try craigslist.org for an older one. If you want a new one, the Graco Ultra Clear Model 2M201 ($29.99) is the newer version of mine. http://www.amazon.com/Graco-Ultra-Clear-49mhz-Monitor/dp/...

I do get some interference if I put my cell phone immediately next to the speaker.

Before you spend the money on a new baby monitor try this. Leave all the bedroom doors open in your house and go to bed with the monitor off. I used a baby monitor with my first child and when it broke I threw it away and never bought another one. I have 4 children and I always hear them when they wake up in the middle of the night. If they are not loud enough for you to hear them they will probably put themselves back to sleep without your help.

I got a Safety 1st one when my second son was born. Our first one was all static too after a couple of years. The one I got cost about $100 when I got it a year ago. It has 4 pieces. 3 are transmitters and 1 is the parent receiver. The kids' rooms are upstairs and our room is all the way at the back of the house downstairs so I liked that I could use one monitor for both boys. I put one transmitter in each of their bedrooms and the third in the downstairs play room. I can carry around the one receiver and can hear basically my whole house. You can set it to one room or you can have it scan all 3 rooms. I have it scan all night so that I can hear both the 1 year old and the 4 yr old if they wake up at night. The one receiver can plug in or run on battery. The batteries recharge when you plug it in. I plug it in at night and run it off the battery during daytime naps so I can carry it around with me.

J.,

Even though your son is 10 months old, you will be using it for a few more years.

Check Consumer Reports on line to see what they recommend. I did that and was happy with the one I got at the time.

Well I bought a Safety 1st from Target. I got into the static thing also with an expensive one so decided this time I would go EL-CHEAPO...... It was great for about the first 2 months then went all staticy on me just like the others. So I recommend do not buy that one.
Good luck.
