I live in a place where power outages are frequent, and need a baby monitor that can run on batteries only (both the base and the parent receiver). Does anyone know of any brands or models that offer this? Thanks!
Another vote for the Sony Baby Call monitor. Inexpensive and we've had no problems with it. The battery charge lasts a super long time.
We have the Angelcare Delux Movement Monitor, which has 2 handsets and one base... it runs off electricity, but reverts to battery power if your power goes out. We live in an area where power outages are frequent as well, and this has never let us down :) I'd gladly pay 3x as much as I did for this!

I have the Sony Babycall Rechargeable monitors. The base comes with 2 receivers (which is nice to keep one in our bedroom and one downstairs). Both have rechargeable batterypacks, so while there is power, they can run off the power. But if the power goes out or you unplug them to walk around or whatever, the battery pack kicks in. Plus, since they're rechargeable, you won't have to replace batteries!!! (Note: I also have an older version of the Babycall that is not rechargeable and I MUCH prefer the newer one since I don't always have extra batteries on hand to replace)
Also, I've had 2 other brands of monitors (Graco and Safety 1st, I think) and the Sony has, by far, the BEST reception and clarity of any of them!
Ours does, but I am not sure how it would act if you left the batteries in while it was plugged into the wall. It was just am inexpensive Graco.
I have 2 different ones that operate on batteries (you can do either - power cord or batteries).
The first I have is the Angel Care Deluxe (which someone else mentioned below) - yes, it is pricey, but I LOVE it! It has alerted me a few times when my daughter had sleep apnea (she was super sick) - I LOVE that there is no static sound when the monitor is on, I LOVE that it's digital so I can see what the temp in her room is...I LOVE everything about it!
I have another one (I bought for traveling) that is by Fisher Price and I don't know the exact name of it, but it's one that has a nap timer on it - that one is GREAT too b/c there is no static sound to it but it doesn't have the bells and whistles the angelcare does...
They both travel far from the base unit (900 ft) and both have "nightlights" on them...so, it depends on the features you want and how much you want to spend...
I think ours was either Fisher Price or Safety First. We took it camping so I know it used batteries as an option.
Fisher Price used to make one, at least the parent receiver was because I walked around with it when my littles were napping or when I went to go potty. Went through batteries like I would go through chocolate, so definitely invest into rechargeable batteries.
