My 15 Month Old Has Dry Scalp!

My 15 month old has been scratching her head a lot here lately, and I looked at her scalp, and it's REAL dry. I guess it's called crib head. Does anyone know a good home remedy for it, or anything I can use to make her scalp not so dry? I've put baby oil on it, but it didn't work too good. If anyone has any advice, I'd appreciate it!

i believe that its called cradle cap and when both of my sons had it the doctor recommended that i use NIZAROl shampoo. It cost about 10 or 11 dollars but it works, it used to be prescribed but thank goodness now you can just go to wal mart or any store and but. Its in a blue bottle.

good luck

My son had the same thing at that age and what I did was when I gave him a bath was use the baby magic shampoo. Then use the baby bath on his head then waited like 10 mins then washed it out. When u go to brushing their hair don't use one of those baby soft hair brushes that makes it worse use a normal hair brush and brush their hair like u would do yours, yeah Doctors says that it hurts their heads to use a normal hair brush that a myth. Then use a leave in conditioner just use like a little bit, enough to get the whole scalp but not make it too oilly.

Try Crisco. A dermatologist recommended that we use the creamy crisco on our sons eczema and it has really helped. It doesn't smell or look that wonderful but it helps!

Hi! My daughter had the same problem and I had a horrible time trying to get it cleared up. We tried all the shampoos, baby oil and anything else I was told. We ended up having to see a dermitalogist and it cleared up immediately. We never had to go back to see the doctor again. If these other suggestions do not work maybe she needs to see the doctor. I hope this helps. Have a wonderful weekend.

When My son was about 8 months, this happend to him, I tried using baby oil but it was not the liquid, it was gel with aloe vera and vitamins in it. This helped some what. I would take a baby brush and kinda lightly rub the scalp with it and the baby oil. You could also look for an oatmeal shampoo or a shampoo that is just for cradle cap, they usually have some at Wal~mart, sometimes you might find these in the baby section or in the pharmacy area where they have some baby things. I tried all of these and when this was not clearing it up anymore, we went to the doctor, my son's regular doctor, and he gave me a prescription for Selenium Sulfide lotion, which is generic for Exsel Lotion. Might take your little one in and have it looked at. But don't worry its normal for any baby, some just need a little extra help clearing it up.

Try some warm olive oil on her scalp. then brush her scalp with a baby brush gently to loosen up the dry skin wait an hour or so then wash her hair. Do this every day for a week and you will notice a difference.

My daughter had dry scalp for her first two years. I was told by my doctor not to use baby oil because it can make it worse. He suggested California Baby shampoo. You can get it at Target, Ozark Natural Food Store, or online. It works great and we now use their products all of the time.

About 20 minutes or so before bath time put olive oil on her head and rub it gently with a wash cloth. If your not already...use unsented gental baby shampoo to wash her hair. My daughter went through this too and she has very sensative skin so we only gave her a bath once a week and didn't wash her hair unless she really needed it; although I don't think the dryness bothered her much.

Good luck!

Don't pick at it. It will get worse if you do and it could scar the scalp. My daughter had it for years and I used Scalpacin but ask your Dr. first.

I used Selson Blue on my baby. My pediatrician said to make sure it had 1% Selenium Sulfide in it.
