I had really good luck with ginger when I had terrible morning sickness. Try sipping ginger ale and if that doesn't work you can buy candied ginger. Nibble on it. It's alittle hot so don't take a big bite.
I am almost 3 mths pregnant with my second child and have HORRIBLE morning sickness...all day!
Any tips, ideas, or advice on how to feel better would be much appreciated! I can hardly feed or change my son's diaper without getting sick! It's really bad!
Thanks to everyone for the advice and tips. I'm not quite as sick as I was - I tried lemons and ginger and both seemed to help to a point. I only get sick every once in a while now. It's still a challenge to change my son's diaper. I'm very sensitive to smells...I've learned to hold my breath A LONG TIME!!! :)
Anyway, thanks again! :)

Ginger helps w/nausea. You can either cut up slices of ginger and start chewing on it for some of the juice or drink ginger tea. They sell the ginger tea at fiesta in the asian/chinese aisle by the teas. It comes in a box with packets that are crystallized ginger to melt in a cup of hot/warm water. Hope it helps!!
i didnt experience any morning sickness but i was always told to eat crackers or toast in the am and if i still got sick to rehydrate with gatorade. i was also told to try eating chocolate or those peppermint patties
Ugh, I had the same problem with my second one. All I could do was to eat small, frequent meals and suck on peppermints. And I prayed that my daughter wouldn't poop until my hubby got home! =) Gingerale & Sprite helped too. Good luck!
I'm one of the lucky few that didn't have morning sickness my WHOLE pregnancy! However, I did get sick for about a week with the stomach flu...it was NOT pretty. For the vomitting I took Mylanta...it worked like a charm! That's the only advice I can give, hope I was helpful!
switching to a different prenatal vitamin helped me, i had to try out 5 different ones before i stopped puking, and ironically the ones that didn't make me sick were putrid smelling and i got them from the vitamin section of fiesta international. also i found banana's crackers and diet sprite or Perrier worked great to curb that "i can't eat a thing w/o puking feeling" good luck and congratulations
Try lemon drops. I've been told this works. Good Luck!!!!
I too was really sick with both of my pregnancies! It was horrible - everything made me sick.
I tried the crackers, small meals, changed the vitamins - nothing worked. With my first pregnancy my doctor gave me a prescription - I can't remember the name but it was a small pill that dissolved in your mouth. With my son, the only thing that made me feel better was lime juice. I would cut a lime into 4 slices bring them with me just in case I got sick in the car (which happened several times) or at work - Olives also helped some time.
Hope this helps any
Honey, I know how you feel. I am now almost 6 1/2 months pregnant and I was really sick also. I tried everything, but nothing worked and I have three other kids to deal with at home. I finally asked the doctor and he gave me some medicine to help me with the sickness. It makes you really sleepy until you get used to it. The name is phenergan. It did help me a little bit, but I have a low tolerance to medicine so I never could get used to the medicine and I would sleep all day long. So I had to stop taking it. I started to lay in bed in the morning and immediately eat some crackers and get up. I would still throw up but I didn't feel as bad afterwards. But I was sick all day and I would just eat really small meals all day long. Just keep snacking on little things so that your tummy won't feel empty. I would also sip on some gingerale (spelling?). Just ask your doctor about phenergan and see if that might work for you. Good Luck!! I thought it would never pass but it finally did. Thank goodness!!
One of the earlier posters recommended Ginger and this is EXACTLY what finally helped me. GNC or similar health/vitamin stores carry it. As soon as you wake up in the morning, take one, and then take one mid-day if it returns. It was a lifesaver.
You poor thing. I can sooooo feel your pain. I am pregnant with my 3rd right now, and was horribly sick with each one. Each pregnancy was progressively better by comparison, but it was still unbearable. I am in my 5th month with this one, and 90% of the sickness has passed. But before it did, here are a few things that seemed to help a bit this time (nothing ever seemed to help with my other 2 pregnancies except for an IV and a hospital stay)...
- Take a B6 vitamin supplement, about 50-100mg twice a day with food. A balanced B-complex with other B vitamins is good, just be sure it has 50-100mg of B6.
- Eat something every 2 hours, like clockwork. Don't ever let yourself go more than 2 hours without something in your stomach. When you get overwhelmed with that horrible feeling that is anything but hungry, you probably need to eat something, even if it's the last thing you want to do.
- At one point (and I'm not sure this would work for everyone or even for me in another pregnancy), I found that if I would just go ahead and let myself throw-up first thing in the morning, I was less likely to throw-up the rest of the day. At first, I would spend all morning on the couch with a blanket over my head, begging my body not to throw-up. Sometimes I wouldn't, sometimes I would, but I felt horrible all day long. But a few days in a row, I couldn't stop it & just threw up right away, and found that it wasn't as bad the rest of the day. And it's so much easier to throw-up a small bit of stomach bile than a whole meal later in the day. So I just started getting up first thing & walking to the toilet. It didn't take much more than that to get me going. Hmmm...I dunno. I got desperate enough to try anything & it helped me a bit.
- Many people swore to me that taking ginger tablets would help, but I never got around to buying them.
- I also found a supplement online that I almost ordered, but I was just starting to feel better & decided I didn't need it. Here is a link to the information I found...

I originally read about Tummy Tune-up and its positive effect on morning sickness on another website, but I can't find that link. I'm still thinking of ordering it, because my stomach is still "off" most of the time. But I don't have personal experience with it yet.
Anyway...good luck. I know how horrible it can be, and that it seems like it will never go away & nothing could possiby help. But try everything you can. You might find something that works, or at least keep yourself occupied trying until one day you wake up and it's over...Hallelujah!!!
HUGS!!

M.,
Congrats on the 2nd baby. My advice to you that has always helped me with morning sickness are a few different things. The Doctors always say Emetrol...i have tried the lemon mint and it made me sicker then I already was. I always bought the cherry flavored one instead. Also keep some peppermints in your purse or with you at all times this helps with the nausea. Also when you cook meats for yourself to eat at home try and put a little ground ginger on it for a seasoning. This too also prevents nausea. If you go to restaurants like Benihana's, Tokyo, or Miyako's they put ginger on their food while it is cooking or make a ginger salad dressing. This was the only thing I was able to eat while pregnant with my 1st child was the salads and the foods at their restaurants. That was until I kept the ginger in my cubbored so that I cooked with it all the time. Best of luck to you and your family with the upcoming new baby and try putting a peppermint in your mouth before ouy change your sons diaper. It might take you mind off the smell of the diaper and you have a fresh taste in your mouth as well as the fact that you can smell the peppermint instead.
Pear Juice - either the heavy syrup in the can with the pears in it, or Kerns makes a concentrate Pear Nectar drink. My pediatrician (from when I was a kid) hated prescribing drugs to kids esp. with the stomach problems. Pears natural juice has pectin which is a calming agent in most of the pediatric type stomach medications. When I was prego with my daughter I lived on pear juice and even though I just miscarried - I keep pear juice 24/7 at work and at home. Its very sweet, but it also helps calm the stomach ick... and it's filling too - esp when we have a hard time in the mornings.
Hope it helps... I swear by it and so do my kids...instead of living on antacids.

Congratulations on your pregnancy! I just gave birth to my second son in March and, unlike my first pregnancy, had HORRIBLE morning sickness for the first 4 months. I lost 22lbs during those 4 months b/c it was so bad (Don't freak...I had it to lose so the doc was not worried and monitored me closely!). Here are some of the things we tried...they didn't always work every time but I did have success with them at some point depending on the severity of the morning sickness.
- The old staple...saltine crackers by your bed, in your purse or wherever you are.
- Peppermint...is a naturally soothing property. I found peppermint hand lotion at The Body Shop that I kept on my desk. When a bout of nauseau hit I'd rub some on my hands. It did work! Also...candies...keep some in your purse and pop one in your mouth when nauseaus. Wonderful stuff! (It's also good to have for your breath if it doesn't happen to stave off the nauseau!)
- Ginger Trips by Solaray...a ginger gum w/ Vitamin B-6 that helps curb nauseau. You can get it at most health food stores. It's about $9 for 30 gum pieces.
- Phenagran...a prescription from your doctor that works wonders! It's fairly inexpensive since there is a generic.
- Zophran...this is a VERY expensive medication ($22 a pill!) that was originally designed for chemotherapy patients to help w/ their nauseau. Used in extreme circustances but VERY effective.
Remember to drink LOTS of water...when you vomit you lose bodily fluids and being dehydrated can CAUSE nauseau so you don't want to add that to the morning sickness. I got to where I would munch on ice every once in a while. It was fun and it helped me cool down and kept me from getting bored with water. I also got the Crystal Light single serve packets to put into water. Don't drink tea or sodas...they ZAP the fluids out of you!!
Anything cold helps to soothe the stomach. I bought a big box of popsicles and kept them around at all times. Even though they are mainly sugar and water....it is a form of fluids! Stear clear of dairy products if you can. They can add discomfort to an already upset tummy. (i.e. sorbets instead of ice cream.)
MOST IMPORTANTLY...communicate with your doctor. You really want to make sure your weight doesn't drop too low and that you stay hydrated. I found that my pre-natal vitamins only made me sicker...if you can't find one that works for you your doctor my recommend going off the vitamins but changing your diet to get the nutrients you need. I went this whole pregnancy only taking vitamins 2 times and my son was born very healthy b/c of the foods I ate...once I was able to keep them down! LOL.
Reassurance....at times I got so sick that I was really worried about my baby's health. Remember that they are in that protective little amniotic environment and aren't affected by the act of throwing up...lol. There were a few occasions that I did begin spotting after numerous rounds in the bathroom...I called my doc and went in for a check up. All was fine but if you have any unusual cramping or spotting immediately call your doctor. Better safe then sorry!!
Well, now that I've written a book...I hope this helps!!
Good Luck and keep us posted!
I was just like you for both of my pregnancies. It seemed like just breathing made me sick. And I was sick through the whole thing. The only thing that helped me was crackers. They couldnt have any flavor or salt. I just needed somthing bland in my stomach the first moment I woke up. I actually lost 15 to 20 pounds during the first trimester both times. The good news, my doctor said that when the mothers get sick its a sign of a good, strong, healthy baby. It must be true because im 4ft. 11inches, 110 pounds and had 2- 21 inches, 7pound 11 ounce baby boys. I think 10 months of sickness is well worth healthy babys. Good Luck!
When I was pregnant with my son I had all day sickness. I talked to my dr about it and she prescribed some prenatals that were for anti-nausea. They really helped out alot!
Also, it is said that if you keep a package of saltine crackers ny the bed at night and when you wake up before even taking your head off the pillow eat 2-4 that this will help out!
Hope everything goes well with you!!
The best thing I found for morning sickness was to get up, cut a lemon in half and smell it. Something about the smell makes nausea go away. It really does work

Chewing gum seemed to help (sometimes). I was addicted to this watermelon gum....can't stand it now though! LOL
In most cases, you should be done with the morning sickness soon. I know for my last pregnancy, it seemed to peak towards the end, and then slowly go away. So, hopefully this is your peak!!
Congratulations on your pregnancy though!! You'll feel better soon!
