Hello everyone! I had Mirena put in about 4 months ago and have had regular periods up until this month. Im two weeks late and have had no spotting or bleeding. I am experiencing some cramping but nothing happens. I took two at home pregnancy tests and one urine test at my doctors office, all of which were negative. The dr's assistant told me its possible that my period just stopped altogether but, because of all the horror stories ive hear, i cant help but think that its a possibility that im pregnant. I have no other signs or symptoms besides the late period and cramping. Anyone else have this experience?

What can I do next?

My sister had Mirena put in 2 yrs ago. Since then she's had 5 periods and they only last a day-3 at the most.

That is completely normal. I had my Mirena IUD put in 3 years ago. My period stopped completely after 3 months. I still had cramping and sometimes got pretty bad. My cramping was caused by a cyst that formed on my ovary. (which the IUD can cause). My cyst had gotten pretty big so they put me on birth control pills along with the IUD to help control the cyst. When I went to my follow up appointment they told me I had PCOS. I love the Mirena IUD. The only thing I don't like about it now, the doctors can't find the string so when I have it removed, I more than likely need to go under anesthetically.

Didn't your Dr's office tell you there was a chance you would lose your period? I know my midwife said it happened to her. It also happened to my sister. However, I never lost mine.

I got my Mirena 3 years ago, and after a few months rarely get a period. Maybe every 3 months or so for a day. I think you are fine :)

My doctor told me I'd likely lose my periods, and sure enough, four months after getting the Mirena, my periods stopped altogether. I've had it for 4 years now, and just a few months ago, I started getting random spotting, and then regular spotting. The timing was like a period, but it's never any heavier than some spotting. Called the doc again, and was told it's pretty normal.

I have the Mirena and no longer have periods. I have had it a year and a half and every now and again I have these feelings that I am pregnant, but I am not. It's highly unlikely. They say you'll lose your period, so I would just relax. That's probably just it. Now you enjoy no period!!!

It's not unusual at all for your period to stop with the mirena. I haven't had mine is over a year...although I often feel some minor cramps when I think it should be "my time."

I have had Mirena for over 3 years and after the first couple of months I stopped getting periods. I have some very light spotting once in a while, but nothing that is regular. As I understand it, it is "normal" to stop getting a regular period with Mirena.

It's highly unlikely that you're pregnant unless you've expelled the Mirena. Check to make sure it's still in there.

If it is, it's likely that your periods just stopped - which is one of the advertised features of Mirena! Enjoy it! :)

I have never had a period on Mirena and I have been on it for over two years now. I also have a slight psychotic break now and again if I am overly moody or have something that slightly resembles a pregnancy possibility, rush out and buy a test or two, only to find they are negative. The chances of getting pregnant when on Mirena, if appropriately placed, are so minimal - my OB said it is better than getting your tubes tied.
I love the fact that I am period free and have never looked back. I have two babies that are absolutely wonderful, am not interested in having more kids now, but can always have the mirena removed if I change my mind.

You should be fine. I have no period when I am on the Mirena IUD either. I have never had an issue. My Dr. told me that statistics show that people who get preg. with an IUD are actually preg. before it was put in and didn't know it. She also said that she has never had someone get preg. after having one put in. (until it was taken out of course) I am on my second one. I don't think you have anything to worry about! I personally have not heard any horror stories about them and I have several friends who use them as well.

After my body adjusted to the Mirena (spotting and cramping for about 2 months or so) I just stopped having periods. No spotting or anything. I have not had a period in almost 3 years now, which has been kind of nice. :)

My Mirena needs to be removed in 2 years and I totally plan on having a new one inserted.

Good luck!

Jen
