I does depend on the person. I have a IUD and still have a cycle but I was told by my ob that I may not have one.
I gave birth to my first son in January of this year. I had an IUD placed in April. After the placement, I maybe had one very short, light cycle, but since have not had one. Is this common? I followed up with my OB/GYN in June and I informed the nurse about it. I was just wondering if it would cause a complete absence of my cycle.

Yes and it is the most wonderful thing!!!! I had mine put in the last week of December and have not had a cycle... well you still cycle inside technically but i have not had a period persay! It is awesome... You might get light cramping. I do every few months for a day or two. But nothing like it was before. I am very pleased and have no compaints!!!

I've had a 5 year IUD (Mirena) in for almost 4 years with the same effect. My Sister in law (who's an OBGYN) did say it was a common side effect. I love it!
As long as everything is in place you are good. Enjoy while you can.
Yes. That's very common. I have a little bit of a period, but it's very slight. The one I have now is the third one I've had and I've not had any issues. My ObGyn said that it's common with an IUD.
Hello.
I had my baby in Oct of 2007 and then had Mirena put in December. Never had a period again or so far. It was great.
My friend was just telling me the other day that she just had her IVD taken out and how she went 3 years without a cycle. Now she has one. So yes evidently it is common.
It depends which kind you got -- Mirena or Paraguard. If you have Mirena, it's pretty normal to lose your period. It has a tiny amount of hormones. With Paraguard, you continue to have your period and it's actually heavier.
If you have the Mirena, then yes this is normal. Enjoy.
I got Mirena 6 weeks after giving birth to my son (he's now 2). After the initial light on/off spotting the first several weeks, I never had a period. I thought it was partly b/c I was breastfeeding, but after I stopped nursing I still didn't get a period. There is a small percentage of women who don't get periods with an iud. After having it removed to try for baby #2, it was about 7 weeks before I got a period, which was very heavy. The dr who took it out said it might take up to 2 months before my cycle came back since I didn't have one with the iud.
yes - it causes your cycle to cease. I had one in between kids and it was gone for over 3 years. Congratulations! =)
I haven't had my cycle in almost 4 years. I think in the IUD pamphlet it said that 20-30% will not have a period at all after several months with the IUD. I have a friend that didn't have a period for several years with one, and had it removed to get PG again, and got pregnant 2 months later. So, no worries!
I have had mirena 3 different times and have not had a cycle. however as soon as it was taken out I had a cycle and got pregnant within 2 months.
It is very commom with the Mirena IUD since it has hormones in it. If this is the kind that you have (lasts for 5 years) you probably won't cycle very much.
P. it al depend on the type of IUD you got. If is copper you should have a period, but if you are exclusibly breastfeeding you may not. If you have Mirena which is a hormonal IUD then is another story, alot of women w/Mirena do not have mensis or sometimes only have spotting every month. This is regardles of breatfeeding or not. SO if you have Mirena is normal and is normal to have cramps sometimes or spotting when not expecting them.

I have had my IUD for 6 years (replaced once). I sometimes spot or sometimes don't have one all together. I know of others that don't ever have a cycle. Completely normal. I love mine. Hope that helps.

I got my IUD after my daughter was born and I got the one called Mirena. I have had 2 boughts of spotting but no period. My doc said its 100% normal and that I may never have one while its in place. Such as may be the case for you. If the doc isnt worried about it, I would say you shouldnt. Lol just enjoy it
