ive never heard anything good about these..try the depo shot-heard that works wonders...good luck
What to do about my Mirena with continuous bleeding/spotting? I had it for almost 4 months and all I do is bleed and spot EVERY day! I thought it would be a great thing for my bleeding problems. I've been on bc pills and a lot of them to prevent endometriosis which I ended up being diagnosed with in my early 20s and had surgery. I have a history with having cysts. I even tried th nu-via ring. None seemed to help. After my 4th baby I started having more issues so over the summer I had blood work done, U/S, a biopsy, and other tests finding nothing. I was very leary on any birth control, but I though that the mirena would really help me. I understood that it needed time for my body to get use of it. Almost 4 months now and still bleeding/spotting, only good thing is its not so heavy, but I constantly feel I have my period! I did have a cyst pop 3 weeks ago. Normally I tough things out, but my sex life is going down hill and I think its starting to take a toll on me . I really would like to give it the benefit of the doubt but I don't know. I know if I'll call they will probably say its normal or want me to come in and do tests or something and I'm sick of being poked and prodded. Not to mention the costs to keep going the Dr. Just wondering if anyone is or did go thru this and stuck w/ it or did you eventually have it removed? Thanks!
Well I did stop bleeding for about 2 weeks and began bleeding again. I choose to have it taken out and it done today. I told them about the bleeding and she told me that is she really hasn't ran into that problem w/ the mirena before. So I guess around my area alot of people have better experiences than I did and the way it sounds you shouldn't have an on going spotting/bleeding for weeks on end. Its one of those things that you just have to try yourself like trial and error. Just wish it wasn't such a costly thing to try! LOL Good luck to you others that have no problems w/ and to the ones who are contemplating about it do what you feel is best for you. Remember that these kind of things like anything else isn't going to work for everyone so I did the best thing that was right for me and had it removed. Thank you everyone for replying! :)

you could wait it out. it seemed like forever i was doing the same thing, but now i hardly have a period at all. so if you want to wait it out, and give your body the time to keep adjusting, then you wont have to worry about a period at all; even when i do get one, its like 2-3 days of light spotting and its over. i think that is worth the patience. also, its no hassle birth control! just relax. im sure its going to work out in a little while. i know its annoying now, but you paid for a 5 year plan here, so give it some more time. you havent even gotten 10% of that time used up.
I did the same thing call the dr and they put me on a ten day pill and I finally quit spotting so go ahead and call the dr.
My midwife said, that if you do Mirena, commit for at least 6 months. It takes a good six months for your body to get adjusted. (Although some sooner.)
All that being said, I had mine for a little over two years and my only complaint was that I spotted 2-3 weeks out of a month. The spotting wasn't terrible, so I just put up with it. But then I decided I didn't want anymore kids, so hubby got a vasectomy....and I got it removed.
I would say, try it for at least 2 more months.
This sounds like my experience on the Mirena. I had it placed after my 6th child was born. I bleed for the first month, but I think that was more to do with the fact that I had retained part of the placenta and needed a D&C before the MIrena was placed. I noticed that my periods were starting to get lighter, I went from terribly heavy bleeding to really light.....but the drawback was that the periods went from 7 days to 14+. I too felt like I was constantly having a period because of this. I stuck it out almost a year before we decided to have it removed. The doctor couldn't find the string and I ended up having a D&C to have it removed. I would suggest you talk to your doctor, but in my opinion the continous bleeding isn't worth the ease of the form of birth control.
Good morning Jesssie,
I actually had to of those done. The first one turned around and started to decend. If i would have checked it she said I could have pulled it out my self. I also had some weird bleeding that time was dark red. The second one was placed in two months later and stayed positioned properly but the three weeks I had it I also had cont. bleeding, along with cramps, I figured it might be comeing out again. So I hung in for two more weeks then gave in went back to the doctor and told her what was going on and she said that I should have went back when the bleeding didn't stop early on, that bleeding was a sign it wasn't placed properly or my body did like it. I am not having issues with birth control pills but I am not bleeding all the time. Good luck!
This did not happen for me the first time I had Mirena. The second time around, I was devastated because I LOVED having the Mirena because it was such an easy form of birth control, and none of the pills worked for me because they always gave me migraines. I waited it out for about 6-7 months, and then, it finally quit. Now, I only spot a few days a month and that's it!
