I had constant spotting for the first 6 months, then nothing for 2 years.
If you still haven't gotten a period I would contact your doc just to check you out.
I see there are so many questions and answers about the mirena, but didn't see this question. I had my mirena put in two days before I was due to get my period. I expected to still get it but didn't. It's been two weeks now and a little darker discharge but not spotting and no period. It's supposed to get put in the monday after your period, but because my insurance was due to run out, I had to get it put in on the wrong week. Any thoughts? Anyone else have this done? Results? My sister said she didn't stop her period until 6 months after she was on her mirena. I'm wondering if it's just gone for good already? (and silently hoping LOL)
Well, I didn't skip my period and now I'm annoyed with it. It's been a week and a half of spotting. Started out with the brownish as usual, turned red (mind you this is all VERY tiny amounts, not enough to fill a liner in a day). And a week and a half later I'm still rotating from brown to red back to brown...nothing for a 1/2 day or so then back to the red to brown...etc...:( I only hope that it comes to some sort of routine normalcy soon!!!
NORMAL ARRIVED...two months later and zip zero zilch...one month of the suffering through on again off again was definately worth it.
Found out from my new family dr that the reason ob's like to put the mirena in on an empty uterus is to make sure it places correctly. If your uterus is full from a pending period it's harder to get in the right place and there is a much higher risk of getting pregnant and or having a tubal pregnancy. I would recommend this to any mom!!!

Well I have had my mirena for almost 2 years, and the first week or two i had light spotting.........then basically a light period every 3 months or so.
But the thing with not getting your period (at least for me) I get the cramps, irritability stronger than i use to.
A friend of mine had hers put in when she was still breast feeding and not having periods. 4 yrs later and she still hasn't had a period yet. Wish this was true for me, but it does change your cycle a bit so I wouldn't worry about it.
I had mine put in at 12 weeks postpartum (hadn't ovulated yet). I bled on and off for about 6-8 weeks then nothing. That was 6 months ago.
I had my Mirena put in at my 6 week check up after i had my son back in 2006, & since then i've never had my period, and surely don't miss it either!!! If I'm not mistaken my Dr. just put mine in when i came to my appointment, not by my menstrual cycle!! The last time i had my period was the month before i conceived my son!!! If your lucky like me you won't have to worry anymore about your period... just remember it only lasts for 5 years....lol
My sister hasn't had her period not once since having it put in. I think it affects everyone differently.
I had my mirena put in as soon i quit bleeding (about 6 weeks) after i had my son in 2005. I had a slight darker discharge like u for my first "period" that only lasted a couple of days. After that NO PERIODS!!! I do have a few cramps every month when I guess I would have a period. My advice....enjoy no menstral cycle for the next five years!!!
Well, I have had my Mirena for a little over two years now and when i first had it put in I was spotting for a few weeks and then my period was gone. It usually comes every 3-6 months, but even then it is light! I love it, my son is about to be three years old in July and I. (small) baby free! I love it! Enjoy it and try not to worry so much you should be fine!
My period went away right away. So I wouldn't be too worried. I've had mine in for 4 yrs now and haven't had a period. It has been great! Hope this helps.
