I am not a doctor, but in my experience any time I have had a metal taste in my mouth it has been that I have developed bronchitis...from the sinuses draining into my lungs...
Good luck..
My daughter has a strange metal taste in her mouth and a very decreased appitite. Her doctor thinks it is her sinuses. We are trying everthing suggested and it is still happening. Someone said they thought it might be thrush. I'm so frustrated and worried about her, I just don't know what to do. Anyone have any ideas. Are there any Mom's that are doctors that can help me out. I would really appreciate the mystery being solved. Thank you so much. God Bless!
Thank you everyone for all of your help. She has had a combination of things that has caused her terrible taste. First thing was a B-vitamin & zinc deficiency, the second thing was a sinus infection. Her ability to absorb is deminished due to Irritable Bowel Syndrome. That has caused a terrible snow ball affect. We are giving supplements and so far she is improving. Again, Thank you so much for all of the advice and your prayers. It is really nice to not feel so alone. God Bless all of you! A.

I don't have a lot of suggestions for the metal taste except see a doctor. But thought I might be able to suggest a way or two to get a little more help with your children. I know taking care of two chilren with special needs is sometimes tiring. I have worked wiht a company that provides services to special needs individuals for 12 years. There are a few state/federally funded programs that sound like your children might quailfy for. The best part is all you have to do is put them on the waiting list and wait for the name to come to the top. The first program is the Home and Community based program (HCS for short). It will provide nursing, PT, OT, Speech (if the school doesn't provide it or not enough), adaptive equipment, psychology, dental, in home staff to help clean their rooms, watch them while you take a break... In order to get on this list, just call the local MHMR center and ask to speak to the person that coordinates the HCS list. The second program is the Community Living Assistance and Support Services program, CLASS. This provides similiar services as HCS, but the criteria is a little different. All you have to do to put your children on this list is call this number. 1-877-438-5658. the website for a pamplet of all state funded community programs is www.dads.state.tx.us/providers/community_options.pdf
Has she had any filling if so check with the dentist he may have the answer for you.
Hi A.,
If all else fails, get your child to St. Jude's Hospital for the miracle-workings of love and cures they provide. But for now, take your daughter to an Ear, Nose, & Throat specialist.
Do this all by faith in Jesus Christ. Then He will be with you and work for you, through these doctors.
The good Lord will never put more on us than we can bare. Trust in the LORD, and pray, and He will direct your paths. Your children need you and you need them.
When you feel the worst, think of God's goodness to you, and give praise to His holy name.
THE SAINTS ARE PRAYING FOR YOU AND YOUR CHILDREN.

You need to search in the internet for Meltal tase in mouth, there are some links. Also, I believe on the health channel there was a show about this. You may go to that web site and search for that show. Also, you mentioned an autistic son, I hope you watched the news this morning about many are being mis-diagnoised, it was on channel 13 ABC - You can also search their web site for Austism. I had been telling my husband for a long time now that there can not be that many autisic children. Well, this show was saying just what I had been saying about it. You show find the story and print it out and take your son to a doctor for that.
I have had this for 2 years now, it drives me absolutely crazy. Ive seen the dr about it so many times but they have no answers for me either. First he said I was allergic to my birth control pills so I went off them, no change, tried a different kind, no change...had an MRI (he told me he thought it could be brain cancer, can you imagine!!??) nothing there either...thought I was allergic to jewelry, stopped wearing any, still no change. I have no fillings so its not that either. If you find anything that works for your daughter please let me know!
Thanks and tell her she's not alone!
Try to think outside of the box. It could be nothing at all! I was having this awful hairspray taste in the back of my throat, it went on for weeks. I tried switching meds thinking that was it, but nope. Turned out, it was the chapstick I was using! I stopped using it and viola. Now, it may be something acutally wrong, but entertain the idea that it may be nothing :)
I have had that before and it comes and goes. I always heard that it was a vitamin defficiantcy ~ mostly minerals like iron. I would check to see if she is eniemic (spelling?) or if she just needs more water in her diet to keep her flushed.
I'm sorry I have nothing more profound, but it's something! Good luck with this.
Hi A., I wonder if is the medication that is causing her this problem. Have you talk to her Doctor about it? I've had sinus trouble before and never had a metal taste. I do know that some medication will give you a metal taste.
Good luck,
Elisa
I recently saw a show on Medical Mystery this past week. A woman had a metallic taste in her mouth and had many, many incidents that presented like sinus infections. She also had bad headaches that relieved themselves when she laid down. She progressively got worse. She went to many docs and finally found one that discovered she had a spinal fluid leak. He did a spinal tap and measured the spinal pressure. The pressure was extremely low. When u mentioned metallic taste and sinus problems, these were some of her symptoms.
I get the same taste in my mouth when my allergies act up. It's the post nasal drip making the inside of her throat raw. The drip ultimately goes into the stomach which makes you not very hungry. The only thing that has worked for me for the post nasal drip is the drug guifenessen. This is in Mucinex, but Mucinex doesn't help me much. I have to have the guifenessen in conjunction with sudaphedrine for it to work for me. Sudafed used to have one on the market - it was awesome, but they pulled it when they started putting the sudephedrine behind the pharmacists desk. They have a new formula out - Sudafed Non Drying. It's the only thing that comes close for me. Good luck.
sometimes medication can cause a metal taste in the mouth...just a suggestion.
I don't know what drugs your daughter is on for the rheumatoid, but I was on was that was a form of a chemotherapy drug. They can cause the metal taste. I would suggest she eat with plastic forks and spoons. Good luck.

Does your daughter take vitamins? When I took prenatal vitamins I always got a metallic taste in my mouth and I didn't want to eat because everything tasted gross. When I stopped the vitamins the taste went away.
My suggestion would contact her dentist. She may have a metal filling that is leaking. This would cause her to have a decrease appetite and her mouth may not feel like it should.
Has your daughter been to a dentist recently? If not you should take her in for a checkup and x-rays. My daughter had similar sensations when she had cavities/infection in her mouth and were only resolved once they were filled. I know it is only one of many different causes of the metallic taste in the mouth but thought I'd suggest it.
Good Luck and God Bless!
my 7 year old daughter developed a sore throat last night ,then spiked a hi temp, with complaints of back pain and sore joints and upset stomach. took her to the doctors ,she tested her for strep ,which came back negative. her conclusion was that she is positive for sinus infection, due to the yellow drainage from her nose and yellowish color in back of her throat and stuffiness, she also had complaint of metal taste in her mouth in previous days . swallowing the drainage may also cause sore throat and upset stomach. which was another thing that she had complaint about. since this morning ,i quickly started her on ABT and been treating her for fever and generalize pain through the night, keeping her well hydrated and maintain a healthy diet with vitamins, which she lacked for a week due to my work schedule and leaving her older brother to tend to her (you know how that goes). She seems to be doing well at this time ,her energy level is not as it should be. but is responding better today . Hope this is of any help to anyone . Nurse Watson
I am a registered and licensed dietitian. Have you tested her zinc levels? I've seen taste changes (specifically where they feel like they're tasting pennies) and decreased appetite in patients with zinc deficiencies. (they're usually elderly, though) Good luck!
Have her Vitamin B levels tested. When you have IBS and other problems, this can be a serious problem with absorption. My cousin has the exact same thing. Whenever she gets a metal taste, she needs to increase her vitamin level (mega doses prescribed by a doctor) or get a shot. Sinus infections can also make that taste--as I know too well--but, again, with IBS and low absorption, frequent infections go along with it.
I use to feel that way. like metal in my mouth. I really never thought out it that I don't feel that way any more.
I do know I felt it from drinking carbonated drinks. Yes Cokes, Dr. Pepper, etc. I prayed about it. and God has given me the strength to say no to cokes. I drink 12 cups of water a day. Always drinking water. I feel so much better. I also eat fresh fruits and vegetables. I asked the Lord to also help my metabolise to change. I only eat foods from the shopping of the outside of the grocery store. That is meats, vetables, fruits, and breads. The in side isles of the grocer store are the processed foods. I take vitamins evey day and exercise. I love to ride my bike.
I hope this has helped you with the metal taste in your mouth anwsers. Keep praying and giving thanks aboutit and God will make it known to you what helps. cokes are so bad for us.
Hi A.,
It sounds like your children may be suffering some common side effects of vaccinations. For more information you can visit the PROVE website that has been created by two stay at home mums to disseminate information that can help other parents.

Does your daughter have any fillings in her teeth? This can often be the cause of metallic tastes.
Also there is a book called "I don't want to be Ty" which is being put out by a mother whose son got autism from his vaccinations. She managed to reverse the effects. You can contact her at ____@____.com I read the book over the weekend and it is quite sad how much damage is being done to children (babies really).
Good luck in your quest.
Love,
Z.
