Ive had this kind of bitter, metallic taste in my mouth, particularly on the right side of my tongue. At first I thought it had alot to do with the fact that I had some very large cavities on my back molars. But Ive had dental work done in the meantime & had the cavities filled. I told my dentist about the taste & he looked to see if he could find any abnormalities but he didnt see anything unusual. He told me alot of the time a metal or acidey kind of taste could be related to a vitamin deficiancy and told me to have my primary run some tests to see if she could find anything. I had a full physical & some bloodwork done and all they found was low levels of vitamin D. Alot of people have asked if Ive been taking any medications cause that could be a factor, but I havent been taking anything up until the dr told me to take some vit D supplements. Its just to the point where I cant take it anymore!!! Its very annoying!!! It doesnt make the taste of food any different, its the fact that I cannot figure out whats causing it & neither can my dr or dentist. I suffer from severe anxiety & now that Im not getting any answers, Im stressing that it could be something more serious. The dentist did suggest to me to start using a multivitamin with a high dose of zinc, to eat yogart daily & fresh fruits/veggies to my diet. I just feel like Im going in circles, all I want is for this to go away so I can live my life. Ive got 3 little boys to take care of. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions, that would be so helpful! Thanks so much for listening! =)

Are you snoring at night or sleeping with your mouth open? You might have a sinus problem. post nasal drip or tonsil trouble. Maybe you ate something that is starting to bother you. I cant have pineapple anylonger since it blisters my mouth. Cinnamon does the same thing. The skin in my mouth blisters and then peels off the next day. Ive found toast and crackers scratch and do this too. The taste is certainly a metal tinfoil-chewing taste. I know what you mean. I use mouth wash a few times a day just to rinse and make it feel better. Brushing my teeth before bed really helps, but I do that anyway. I just know a few times when I missed bedtime brushing it was worse. ewww... also, rinsing several tmes a day with warm salt water too helps.

I've heard of a condition that can cause this, so I think you should see a knowledgeable doctor. Can't remember what the condition is.

Quick check on the internet brought up this:

Because a metallic taste can be a sign of an infection or other condition, you should seek prompt medical care and talk with your medical professional about your symptoms. If a metallic taste persists, recurs, or causes you concern, notify your doctor or health care provider. Seek immediate medical care (call 911) if you experience trouble breathing or swallowing.

Don't worry about it, but I do think you should make a dr. appt., just in case.

6 years later - i'm searching the internet because i have the exact same issue as you! Did you ever find out anything? I'm on no meds, I eat really clean & healthy, i have seen my family practitioner who referred be to a neurologist, where i had blood work on so many things including heavy metals, mercury, copper, lead, etc. And an MRI off the brain - all normal. My dentist looked at me like i'm crazy, my oral surgeon was clueless. The only blood test i haven't had yet is for Zinc, which i may start taking. Just interested if you still experience this annoying symptom?

Honestly, I would see an Enderconologist. They are better at this stuff than regular MDS. They know how to read blood work more effeciantly than reg docs. My hubby was having some issues and his regular doc said his blood work looked fine, but referred him to one anyway. Turns out he had several issues. They treated him and he is doing great now.

You have many different responses....I am going to add something else.....my mom used to say that it comes from your stomach, it is not...clean and you clean it by eating some green vegetable, basically cilantro, celery, or similar.
Interesting........Please, let us know what it was....

I know you posted your questions many years ago but my wife has had the same issue with her for over 6 years. She went to a dentist, her Dr ran a ton of tests and blood work and she had some MRI's done and nothing was found. Did you ever find out what your issue was? She's just as frustrated as you sounded.
