Hi Moms,
I have this really incredible Mom friend that is really having a battle with life. she is a single Mom to 4 boys, 3 of which are triplets. She is such an awesome person, always upbeat even though I am sure her life is very rough. She seems to be struggling with one of her triplets, he has severe medical issues despite the fact that he seems to be a typical little boy to most. He requires numerous brain surgeries throughout the year and my friend has little support in helping with her other children during these surgeries. Her son is showing some signs of concern and not really feeling much better after his most recent surgeries. She struggles daily with worry and anxiety over his health in addition to being a single mom of 4.
My questions is does anyone know of any type of foundation or medical services that would provide aide to this woman? I know she desires to travel to new surgeon in Arizona but doesn't have the means to do it. I know his surgeries are covered by medicaid but is there anything else out there for moms/kids like this? I want to help her and just give her some relief and possibilities to give her son the best treatment but i really don't know of any assistance out there to alleviate the stress for her. any suggestions, leads, support would be so appreciated!

Hi M.,
I thought of two things that may help. 1). If she has a church she goes to they may have a fund that could help her. 2). You could start an account at a local bank for donations for her sons care, then send out an email or letter with relevant info about the child and direct donations to that bank. Your local bank should know how to do all of the paperwork needed. In closing, with moms permission, try to get the local news involved. I have seen enormous support for families happen when the word gets out about a family in crisis. Best wishes to your Friend and her child.

A visit to the social worker at the local hospital where her son is being treated might help pinpoint services that might help your friend. There are organizations that provide flight medical transportation that they can give you information on. Also, as others have stated. Medicaid is a state funded program , so it is not transferrable from state to state.

I would start with the association that is involved with whatever his primary diagnosis is. They may be able to offer ideas as to what is available out there.

And Medicaid covers his surgeries in OH but they may not cover it if she goes out of state. I would think she would have to prove that the care he needs is completely unavailable in his home state.
